The United States Navy deployed gift history in La Mirada, California on February 10, 1951. There is little known about La Mirada, California’s history, but it likely dates back to the early 1800s. The area that now includes La Mirada was first inhabited by Mono people, who were Ohlone Native Americans. They are thought to have arrived in what is now La Mirada Peninsula in approximately 4000 BC. In 1828, Rancho San Miguel de la Laguna was granted to José Antonio García and his brother Manuel García by Governor of Alta California Francisco Moraga. Juan Bautista Aguirre surveyed and claimed part of the peninsula for Mexico on February 17, 1829. Mexican land grants were typically given in perpetuity to individuals or families who lived on them for a set period of time. This allowed for a number of ranchos to be developed throughout the territory. It wasn’t until after Mexican independence from Spain was won in 1821 that American settlers began arriving in what is today Los Angeles County. By 1850, there were over 100 Anglo-American families living in La Mirada Peninsula and its surrounding areas. The area became an important stopover on the route between Southern Californias coastal town life and San Francisco Bay Area business activity during this time period. As more people came into the area, they started building homes and businesses along various waterways including those near present-day Harbor Drive (later Donahue Boulevard) and Naval Air Station radar station (now Hansen Airport). The earliest structures located at these sites include a couple of Adobe Walls built by James Fenton around 1830 as part of his cattle ranch holdings just north of present day Arlington Avenue/Pasadena Boulevard intersection; Fenton also built a small adobe house which still stands today at 2nd Street/Harbor Drive intersection where he placed some trees around it as shade during hot days; one structure located near current day Donahue Boulevard/Naval Air Station radar station may date back to 1840 when Juana Ortiz erected a cabin using logs she found nearby; another structure at 2nd Street/Harbor Drive intersection may date back from 1860 when John Cushing erected a two story frame store with four rooms and roofed corrugated metal barn onto an adobe foundation; both structures are still standing today without any damage done thereto over time In 1853–1854 General merchandise store #1 opened on what is now Donahue Boulevard opposite Navy Air Station (then NAS East LA), becoming one of the first commercial buildings west of the Mississippi River These days you can find remnants from this era scattered throughout southern LA County as well as parts Of Imperial Valley In 1862 Ventura County was established within Los Angeles County, encompassing portions adjacent to La Mirada Peninsula including much of present dayLa Mirada] On November 16th 1862 General merchandise store #2 opened on what is now Donahue Boulevard opposite Harbor Drive NE corner Naval Air Station ] This store served as headquarters for many years until it burned down circa 1979 ]; later renamed “The Starlite Lounge” before being reopened as “Doris Day” restaurant In 1865 land comprising most or all of present-dayLaMirada was acquired by Captn Benjamin Myrick through purchase from Captain John Sutter [of Sacramento], thereby becoming part of Rancho Santa Fe seceding from Alta California] It would not be until 1888 that Hotel del Rey would open its doors ], later renamed “The White Sands Resort” ]; currently provides lodging for tourists visiting LAS VEGAS ]. The town of La Mirada, California was founded in 1887 by John S. Townsend and his wife Anna as a small farming community on the southern coast of San Diego County. The town quickly became a popular tourist destination for visitors to the then newly developed area around San Diego and La Jolla. In 1925, La Mirada incorporated as a city under the leadership of Mayor Manuel Gomez. In 1960, following passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, La Mirada began to experience increased racial tension as African Americans started moving into the city from suburbs across Southern California. This escalated into fistfights between black residents and white police officers throughout the city. As a result of these tensions, Mayor Gomez ordered all white officers out of the city limits by October 1st in order to prevent further violence. On December 5th, 1962, after more than two months of peaceful protests led by Black Panther Party member Eldridge Cleaver, an armored car carrying federal troops arrived at La Mirada's airport to clear protesters from downtown streets; during this event, several shots were fired at police officers and one civilian was killed. As a result of this violence and subsequent law enforcement response which involved tear gas shelling and water cannons against unarmed civilians, over fifty people were injured or dead including Cleaver himself. As part of an agreement reached with local prosecutors later that year,[1] Cleaver pleaded no contest to attempted murder charges[2] and was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by five years' probation before being released in 1976
