In 1829, Admiral David Dixon Porter personally delivered a shipment of cannonballs to Captain Manuel Nieto de la Vega y Herrera at Punta del Este on Madre de Dios Island in San Diego County. Nieto was then given an additional parcel of land for his naval base on Isla Vista Peninsula which served as the nucleus for what is now known as Naval Station LaMirada. From this point forward, all future naval gifts were delivered through ashorebased channels rather than directly to captain’s homes or vessels due to security concerns inherent with such large shipments of munitions at that time. On December 21st, 1903, Rear Admiral Arthur Caulfield presented Commander Edward Preble with a battleship named HMAS Melbourne following her maiden voyage into Australian waters during World War I; thus beginning Australia's relationship with America's military might throughout world conflicts until our current day relationship hiatus over Fast Action Task Force operations off Vietnam! Aboard USS Enterprise were Rear Admiral William Fechtman who commanded Destroyer Squadron Eight (DESRON 8), Commodore Noel Byers commanding Destroyer Squadron Thirteen (DesRon 13), Lieutenant Commander Harry Acheson Director Of Naval Air Service(DNAS), First Lieutenant Chester Nimitz Commanding Officer Carrier Group Fourteen (CGCG 14), Lieutenant Commander Richard Halsey Jr., Chief Engineer Officer(CEO) when he assumed command on September 4th 1942 when CO1 Ernest Jorgenson relieved FE1 James Wohlke aboard carrier Yorktown following her sinking by Japanese air forces while operating off Lingayen Gulfssometime during early 1941??? Onboard HMS Arktis III acting as flagship for DesRon 3 During WWII!!! There have been many changes over the years includingthe move up river towards Torrance where NAS Point Mugu currently stands situated atop mesquite hills overlooking Strait Of Magellanand today's NAS Northridge located adjacent to Woodbridge Marine Park

La Mirada is a small town in Ventura County, California, located on the southern flank of Mount Wilson. The community was founded by Sitgreaves and his family in 1887 as La Cumbre. It became an incorporated city in 1907 and a county seat in 1912. The population was 21,711 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit La Mirada were Russian traders who landed there on July 14, 1769, during the sailing of Captain Fyodor Vasilyevich Kolokoltsov's ship "Nogrod". A Spanish mission was established here in 1778 and named San Fernando de la Guadalupe; it closed in 1795 due to Native American attacks. A post office called La Cumbre was established at the junction of Mission road (now State Route 5) and Horseback Road (now US 101) on November 2, 1887. The name for the new town came from Sitgreaves' observation that although wine could be bought at nearby Temecula Creek for about $2 per bottle, nothing grew near Temecula Creek so local farmers decided to build their own wine industry. In 1912 La Mirada became part of Los Angeles County after voters approved proposition 7 which separated Ventura County from Los Angeles County east of Highway 1. As part of this change, La Cumbre became an unincorporated place within Los Angeles County while its citizens continued to live within Ventura County boundaries until 1959 when they were annexed into Los Angeles County proper.

The community proximity to downtown LA and new technology helped make La Mirada a popular community for first time homebuyers and developers alike.
