One such group was José Andrés de la Concha y Crespo, who founded the first successful commercial coffee plantation in 1864.
La Palma is a small town in southern California, located on the east coast of the United States. The population was 7,853 at the 2010 census. La Palma is well known for its white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. The town was founded in 1902 by Spanish settlers as Isla del Carmen, after they first sighted it on a voyage from Acapulco, Mexico. It became an English-speaking community before becoming part of the Mexican state of Baja California in 1912. The name "La Palma" means "Island of Palm Trees." The land that now makes up La Palma originally belonged to Juan Rodríguez de Villalobos, who claimed it in 1542 during his war against Diego Velázquez for control over Baja California. In 1821, Captain Fernando Sánchez Pacheco explored and mapped this area and named it El Dorado after Francisco José de la Cruz y Gómez y Valdés, secretary to Governor Manuel Micheltorena. This land later passed through various hands until it was sold to Ramón Llanos Reyes in 1902 by mining company investors looking for new Surrounding Coast Range land to mine. In 1912 Baja California became part of Mexico when President Porfirio Díaz ratified the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended the Mexican–American War and created a new country called America Norteamericana (the Northwestern American Republic). To commemorate this event, president Díaz ordered that all cannons used during hostilities be melted down and made into coins as part of a commemorative program called "El Triton". This decree led to La Palma becoming an English-speaking community with a large number of Anglo immigrants moving here from Britain and other parts of Europe following World War I. As more people moved into La Palmana, tensions began building between them and local Mexicans over language rights; eventually violence erupted which led to increased US military presence on the island beginning in 1946. After years of peace negotiations ensuing Operation Neptune's Spear – which saw US Marines battle Chukar Indians – Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Webb persuaded then-Governor Pat Brown to order US Marines onto La Palma under orders from then-Marine Corps general James Gavin as part ofOperation Neptune's Spear II – also codenamed Wildfire – aimed at cleansing out any insurgents or criminals residing on or near Isla del Carmen while government forces destroyed infrastructure and property suspected contributors to crime including opium poppy cultivation activities on neighboring San Miguel Island (now Pt Imperial) off Point Conception about 25 miles south). At 1:00 AEDT on July 26th 1969 approximately 350 marines disembarked from three ships USS Coral Sea (CVN 76), USS Enterprise CVN 65 & USS Independence CVN 68 with their embarked helicopter squadron(s) providing air cover for ground troops engaging targets within view aboard two Marine Barracks located ashore….. .The Marines were greeted with gunfire by indigenous inhabitants who had gathered around nearby hills watching what appeared to be combat between American soldiers & natives…….. immediately prior [to landing], small arms fire was reported coming from several directions……… After Landing aircraft landed & unloaded their passengers & equipment……………. Weapons were drawn but no fighting took place……………. No casualties were reported……………. Bystanders estimated that up to 300 indigenous residents had been killed……………………… By September 1969 only 10% remained living on Isla Del Carmen….. However some did return home due to offers received from families living elsewhere………………………… In October 2009 almost all remaining residents relocated back ashore………………………… Today there are very fewnative residents remaining upon Isla Del Carmen…………………………………… With less than 3 acres left undeveloped there is potential for significant economic development ifprivate developers can secure permits

Afterward, La Palma experienced decline as a result of population loss and urban sprawl. However, since the late 2000s, La Palma has seen a resurgence with growth in both commercial and residential development. Today, La Palmana is an upscale community with growing support from businesses and residents alike for its focus on education, culture, recreation and sustainability.
La Palma, California is a city in San Diego County, California. La Palma was founded on December 6, 1857 by the Mission Dolores Father José Gomez and his wife María de la Cueva. The original name of the community was San Francisco de las Pulgas (meaning "San Francisco of the Lizards"). In 1860, La Palma became part of Mexico following its independence from Spain. On January 16, 1871, it became an independent municipality with the name of Villa de la Mata. In 1915, it changed its name to La Paz after Mexican president Venustiano Carranza's visit to that city. On November 15, 1916 voters passed a resolution nominating La Paz for the United States seat in the International Boundary Commission as part of efforts to settle World War I border disputes between Mexico and America. On February 2, 1917 President Woodrow Wilson approved nomination and on February 10th he deposited in Mexico City his credentials as member of the commission. The American military presence at Point Loma effectively ended when troops were withdrawn from Mexico on October 26th 1918; however American citizens continued to live in Villa de la Mata until 1928 when they were evicted by order of Governor general Antonio Lopez Rivera y Arellano because their leases expired without renewal according to law then in effect.
