La Palma, California is a census-designated place in the Monterey Bay region of California. Its population was 7,813 as of 2020. It is located on the coast of Southern California between Carmel and Salinas. La Palma's economy is based largely on agriculture and tourism, with some offshore oil drilling taking place off its shoreline. The name "La Palma" means "Island of the Sun." The first Spanish settlers were Missionaries who came to this area in 1769 looking for land that would support their mission system. They named the island after Saint Peter and Saint Paul, two of Jesus' apostles who were martyred on Earth before being resurrected to eternal life on an island in Tiberius called Colosseum (now part of Rome). After Jesuit missionaries had departed from this area in 1821, wealthy speculators began to invest in these islands, but by 1834 only about 10% of the original land was still under cultivation due to lack of water resources. In 1848 it was decided that La Palma should become a U.S. Naval station because it offered good harbor facilities for American warships operating off Southern California during Mexico's war with United States over Texas annexation into Mexico It wasn't until 1898 when America gained control over Central America that Americans began landing on La Palma specifically to explore its potential oil reserves which they discovered later that year while mapping Central America using air photos taken by Ulysses S Grant! The town started as a small fishing village with just 100 residents and grew quickly due to its strategic location near both major ports - San Diego and Los Angeles - as well as its easy access to goods brought down by ocean ships coming through nearby ports like Long Beach or Seal Beach! laus von Stroheim filmed his movie "A Star Is Born" at La Palmana Studios from 1923-1924; where he also spent time working on sets built just for his movie! This led to the start of the Russian Coffee Industry- one of the earliest industries in Russia. In 1924, Alfred Peake invented instant coffee which became popular throughout the world because it was easier to make than stovetop brewing at home KT (k Cups/minute). Peake's company founded Koffee Klatch Incorporated in 1928 with his brother HarryFK (Harry Fisher King) as its president and CEO until his death on December 3rd 2009 aged 95 years old KT (K cups/minute). On May 5th 1960, America's first commercial drip machine was introduced at a trade show organized by Keurig Corp., starting the modern day brewing process for instant coffee production across North America The term 'coffee' began being used for other liquids such as rum and tequila during this time also

The city of La Palma, California was founded in 1853 by Isidro Garces and Arthur Goldsmith. The area that is now La Palma was originally part of the Rancho San Vicente de la Vega Mexican land grant. In 1857, Garces sold the Rancho San Vicente to David Livingstone for $5,000. In 1880, the post office at La Palma was moved from its original location on top of Mission Bay to a new building on the corner of First Street and Pacific Avenue. In 1902, a fire destroyed much of downtown La Palma and killed four people. In 1916, La Palma became an incorporated town with a population of about 100 people. On December 3, 1922, it merged with nearby Lennox Head Harbor to form the City of La Quinta. The merger resulted in job losses for many residents because both cities had similar populations but different infrastructure. However, due to increased tourism during World War II and postwar prosperity, both cities experienced growth and reached their current sizes by the late 1970s. The present-day city of La Quinta was formed when Area A (east side of Town Lake) was annexed intoLa Palma in 1984 while Area B (west side) remained unincorporated until 1994 when it too joinedLa Quinta proper
In 1821, the Mexican land grant of Rancho La Palma was given to José Antonio Nieto. The following year, Nieto's brother Francisco married Margarita Zandile Dominguez and took the name of their father. In 1827, Pio Pico granted Rancho La Palma to Nieto's nephew Manuel Nieto. On July 15, 1847, the Mexican government sold La Palma to a group of American businessmen led by James Irvine for $1 million. The new owners renamed it Point Loma and began developing it as a commercial center for the San Diego region.
