La Puente is a town in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 381 at the 2010 census. La Puente was founded in 1877 by Juan Bautista de la Hoz and his wife Maria Antonia Pico as a small Mexican village named San Francisco de los Angeles. The first post office in La Puente opened on February 14, 1879. In 1901, the name of the town changed to La Posada after Lady Jane Grey's home in England, which became an international tourist destination for Anglo-Americans during the early 20th century. The townsite that now includes La Puente was originally located near present-day Pasadena. A drought in 1891 led to the migration of many farmers from Orange County toLaPuenta to escape excessive water usage by Pasadena residents. By 1902, most of what is now La Puente had been developed.
