The National Guard has also been giving gifts since the 1960s. The first national guard gift was given in 1960, when La Puente’s City Council donated $5,000 to help finance the establishment of the California National Guard. The donation allowed for 100 new members to be hired and funded their uniforms and equipment. In 1966, another donation from City Council helped fund another 100 members and their uniforms. Gifts continue to be given today by both city and county governments as well as private individuals. There are different reasons why a gift is given, but all agree that it is an gesture of appreciation or support for our military service and/or efforts during times of crisis. Some of the most recent national guard gifts include $10,000 towards purchasing new armored vehicles for the unit in 2006; $25,000 towards purchasing helmets for officers in 2009; $2,500 towards funding a summer camp program in 2013; and $15,000 towards donating land to build a training ground for state police officers in 2014.

La Puente, California is a small town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. It lies on the San Francisco Peninsula between San Francisco and Oakland. La Puente is known for its white cheese and blue cheese products, as well as its wine industry. The population of La Puente was estimated to be 25,000 in 2000. In recent years the population has decreased due to the closure of many factories in the area and new development nearby. The first Europeans to visit what is now La Puente were Spanish missionaries who passed through in 1776. The name "Puente" comes from two Spanish words: "puntar" meaning "bridge" and "uela" meaning "road". The mission at this location was called Nuestra Señora de la Concepción Convento de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (Our Lady of the Cross Convent). In 1884, John Cady Wright built a small mill on the east side of town which became one of the early businesses in La Puente. He also donated land to build a school and church on this site. By 1912 there were over 100 businesses in La Puente with an annual revenue of $1 million. In 1916 construction began on what would become Peralta High School which opened that year. The post-World War II boom brought more jobs to La Puencia but also increased traffic congestion and environmental problems such as water shortages that caused some residents to leave their homes for better opportunities elsewhere during this time period. In 1970, Peralta High School closed after 36 years operation while still serving as one of America's most important schools providing education for elementary students up through college level; it had been part of the community since 1896 when it was founded by Reverend Ivar Dooley with funds provided by his parents'. At that time only high school students could attend PHS; now middle or junior high school students can attend depending on family needs or financial circumstances.. After 11 years without a school following PHS' closure Lowndes Middle School replaced it across from Highway 101A whereupon many children attending PHS transferred to Lowndes Middle School including future Mayor Gavin Newsom whose father attendedLowndes until he entered college . However lowndes middle continued serving students into present day even though Gannett Company shuttered all their presses around here cuz we weren't able 2 compete with them
The National Guard is a militia organization in the United States. During World War I, donations reached $1 million within two weeks after Armistice Day; during World War II, interest peaked at $5 million per month after Pearl Harbor; and during Hurricane Katrina’s landfall on New Orleans on August 29th 2005 (the tragedy that claimed more than 350 lives), community groups collected over 1 million pounds of food that was donated by businesses across New Orleans alone! The first military unit specifically attached to the federal government was the 1st Regiment of Dragoons, which arrived in Boston, Massachusetts on July 6, 1790. The first state guard units were raised in New York and Pennsylvania in 1802-03.
In 1821, Antonio La Puente founded the first white settlement in what is now La Puente, California. He and his family became the nucleus of a small town that would grow over time to become one of the most important areas in southern California. The town was established on a grant from Governor Manuel Micheltorena. By 1848, La Puente had built a popularona (a type of adobe) center with shops, residences, and a school. In 1861, he sold his share of the town to Captain John Sutter for $2,000. Captain Sutter built an LDS church in La Puente and named it Nauvoo after his home city of Nauvoo in Illinois. Over time, other people also bought intoCaptain Sutter's idea to establish a Mormon outpost in southern California. On January 6th 1860, Joseph Smith Jr., founder of Mormonism and president at the time of its foundation in Nauvoo City Limits located near present-day downtown La Puente began construction on what would become Brigham Young University (BYU). The university moved from Nauvoo to Provo Canyon outside Salt Lake City five years later on May 10th 1865 when BYU was organized as an independent institution under Section 68A of the Utah Constitution
In 1847, Mexican immigrants began arriving in California. By 1850, the population of California had increased to over 20,000 people and a number of businesses were established to help support the newcomers. The first specific efforts to improve infrastructure and create public works were made by Governor Manuel Micheltorena. The state legislature created the State Roads Commission in 1854 as part of an effort to improve transportation and connect different parts of the state. The commission was given responsibility for creating new routes, building bridges and improving roads throughout California. During the late 1800s, La Puente was one of the most important commercial districts in California due to its location on major highways connecting Los Angeles with Sacramento and San Francisco. In 1903, La Puente was renamed after General Grant Wood who had served as Commissioner on the State Roads Commission during its early years.
