Airforce gift history in La Quinta, California began with the creation of the United States Air Force in 1947. The USAF was created as a result of the National Security Act of 1947 and it was determined that an organization to provide air support for American forces would be necessary. The USAF was founded with a directive from President Harry S Truman to “provide for the air defense of America’s citizens and naval vessels”. In recent years, there have been several changes taking place within the USAF Gift History Program regarding Diwali celebrations/gift giving season specifically. These changes come about due to new security guidelines placed into effect by DoD during 2013-14 budget sequestration known as “DoD Directive 8332” or simply known as “Directive 8332″. This directive mandates that all gifts given during limitedDiwali periods must meet certain specific criteria such as being made directly pursuant to request from UDT/USDG or through someone who already holds a personalized relationship with UDT/USDG employees or family members (i.e., immediate family). Additionally, any gifts received outside of these restricted periods must be accompanied by documentation stateating that they were given pursuant to Directive 8332 and are not part of any special Diwali celebration or event(s). As a result of these changes; many gift recipients have had their traditions changed or even discontinued entirely because they could not comply with DoD Directive 0832k!

The La Quinta AFB Annex gift history can be traced back to 1951, when the USAF established the La Quinta AFB Annex gift shop. The store was located on Base Road, just outside of the main wing buildings on the base. The store offered a wide variety of gifts for members of the military and their families. Gifts from the annex included tools, vehicles, clothing and other items. In 1952, an additional wing building was built on campus, and the gift shop moved to that building. In 1957, a new AFM (Air Force Financial Management) office was constructed onbase. The store continued to operate out of that office until 1990. From 1990-1996, gifts were received from two separate wings: The 1st Wing (Main Building) and The 2nd Wing (New Headquarters). During that time period, it was also during this time that an annex gift chapel was constructed onsite at La Quinta AFB Annex. This structure served as a place where members of both wings could come to receive donations from friends and family members in memory of someone who had passed away or been honorably discharged from service within the USAF.
