However, thanks to pioneers such as George Washington Carver and Nathaniel Peabody, who began importing wild Arabica beans into America in 1876, roast quality improved significantly over time. Today, La Quinta is home to one of the largest roasting facilities in Southern California due to its impressive production capabilities. The facility produces more than 1 million cups of fresh roasted coffee each week! La Quinta is a small town in California, located about 23 miles east of San Diego. La Quinta was founded in 1876 by Don Carlos Quintana and his wife Paula Villa as a station on the Central Pacific Railroad. The community grew rapidly from its original population of only 100 people to over 1,000 in less than 10 years. In 1916, La Quinta became an incorporated city with a population of over 2,500 people. In 1954, La Quinta was renamed after General MacArthur for his services during World War II. The town has since become known for its large number of high-end homes and golf courses which have contributed to its status as one of the most affluent communities in Northern California.
La Quinta was founded in 1887 as a small farmstead on the banks of the Hacienda de la Encinas. The first settler, Mrs. Isabel Peralta, arrived in 1887 and began planting maize and other crops. In 1895, La Quinta joined the United States as part of the Tijuana-San Diego area during the Spanish-American War. In 1902, La Quinta became an incorporated town with a population of 100 people. The first post office was opened in 1903. A year later, La Quinta hosted its first annual fair which attracted more than 2,000 visitors. In 1905, La Quinta's citizens voted to create a water supply system for their town by voting to appropriate $5,000 from state funds to build a pipeline that would carry water from nearby Rancho Viejo reservoir into La Quinta. The project was completed in 1908 and became one of the earliest public works projects in Tijuana. The population of La Quinta grew steadily over ensuing decades until it reached its peak at around 200 people in 1941. However, due to World War II and economic fluctuations throughout Mexico City and other parts of Mexico, la quintanía gradually lost its importance within Mexican culture as well as among American residents who increasingly moved away for work or entertainment opportunities elsewhere during that time period. After reaching its low point in 1951 when only 50 people lived there, la quintanía slowly increased in population again through immigration over ensuing years until reaching its current level (around 150 people) as late as 1998; however it has since experienced some declines due to recent natural disasters such as Hurricane Mitch which caused extensive damage to infrastructure and homes across much of central Mexico City including much of la quintanía).
