Gift history with the La Quinta NationalGuard can be traced back to 1936 when Mayor Harry Whetstone donated an engraved silver bell withcommemorative inscription “For Valuable Service” to help keep order during World War II. The bell still hangs in City Hall today. In 1949, Governor Goodwin Lyon appointed Judge Leslie Hinkle Acting Commander of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Unit #1 after Deputy Sheriff Don Heuer resigned due to illness (the first time a public official had resigned from their position in UCR). Lieutenant Colonel John Dickson assumed command of this unit on October 1st following Heuer’s death at age 43 years old. On December 3rd 1960, President John F Kennedy presented LA County sheriff Edwin Shafer with a golf bag filled with firearms as part of his Christmas gift! This gift is often considered one of the most memorable moments in county history. A few weeks later on December 17th 1960 Mayor Harry Whetstone presented retired US Army Major General Elmer Woodward with an engraved pistol grip rifle as part of his Christmas present! Woodward served as Commandant/CEO for Hawthorne Electric Company for 36 years until his retirement in 1996; he was then inducted into the Santa Monica-Malibu Chamber of Commerce’s Hall Of Fame along with other legends such as Roy Cohn and Joe McCarthy! The National Guard has also contributed funds for many local charities including Stonington Syndrome Foundation (now known as CureStonington), Dana–Farber Cancer Institute (now known as Brigham & Women’s Hospital), Huntington's Disease Association (now known as MIND) and more!

The La Quinta National Guard has been in the area since 1892. They have many different traditions and events that happen throughout the year.
La Quinta is a small, unincorporated community in Imperial County, California. It lies on the edge of the Mojave Desert and is about halfway between Palm Springs and Santa Ana. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. The name "La Quinta" means "place of theBeeves." This name may be derived from two pioneer families who founded La Quinta in 1885: John Beeville and his wife Sarah Reeves Beeville. In 1902, Hugo Chavez Perez purchased land near La Quinta for use as a rancho. In 1916, Mexican revolutionaries operating out of Guadalajara began to stage attacks on U.S.-owned ranches in this area; these attacks led to increased calls for an American military response. On October 15, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson declared war on Mexico. The United States immediately began buildup of its forces in California; by November 16th, 1915 there were over 2,000 soldiers at San Diego and 3 battalions stationed at Tejon Pass (now known as Big Sur). On December 8th 1915 Rear Admiral George Dewey delivered a report to Congress recommending that the United States build airfields at both Los Angeles International Airport and Tulare Lake; La Quinta would be chosen because it was close to central California's major agricultural areas and had good rail connections with other parts of the country. On February 14th 1916 Major General Pershing awarded General Hugh Cogswell command of all American forces west of Mexico City; this order created much excitement throughout America because it signaled what could be expected from American combat troops if war broke out with Mexico proper- this also meant that General Dewey's choice for commander-in-chief for Central America would have significant implications for California due to his previously held position as Army Chief of Staff in Washington D.C.. By May 1916 both Dodson Air Force Base (later Vandenberg AFB) and Point Mugu Naval Air Station were operational while Scott Field (later Davis-Monthan AFB) served as auxiliary base providing storage facilities for munitions being shipped into Southern California through way stations along Isthmus Of Panama
The United States national guard has a rich history dating back to 1792 when the Continental Army was formed. The Guard first served as a militia, but soon became an integral part of the American military. The Guardsmen were originally organized into companies, but in 1903 they were placed under the authority of the Department of War. Today, the National Guard comprises over 146,000 active duty soldiers and marines who serve in all fifty states and D.C. The Guard provides essential services such as law enforcement, disaster relief, and patriotic programming. In addition to its role within our armed forces, the National Guard also play an important role in society by providing defense against terrorism and crime.
The National Guard was first activated on July 15, 1792 as a reserve force of the Continental Army. The La Quinta area of California was first populated by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Trail pioneers in the 1830s. The town of La Quinta was founded on a rancho granted to José Antonio Aguilar by Governor Manuel Micheltorena on November 12, 1847. The town was named after General José Antonio de la Hoz y Costilla, who had fought under Spanish general Buenaventura De Anza in the Mexican-American War. In 1850, La Quinta became a part of Los Angeles County. Settlement continued until about 1905 when most of what is now La Quinta was developed as single-family homes and businesses. La Quinta has been home to many famous people over the years including Hollywood stars Cecil Bleecker and Myrna Loy, baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Don Sutton, author J.D. Salinger, and U2 frontman Bono
In 1892, La Quinta became one of the first towns in California to be incorporated as a city. The town's population grew rapidly following the completion of the Central Pacific Railroad in 1887 and its connection to Los Angeles. In 1907, La Quinta was renamed Riverside because it had become an important stop on the new Southern Pacific Railway line between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
