The United States Navy has a long history of deploying gift items to its military and civilian personnel stationed in La Quinta, California. The USS Constitution (1801) was the first U.S. Naval Ship to be stationed in La Quinta and it remains one of the most popular tourist destinations for sailors and their families. The USS Constitution’s crew gave back by donating 3,000 pounds of goods to charity during its stay in La Quinta. This was followed by the USS Simpson (1912) which donated 1,500 pounds of goods to local charities. The USS Mayflower (1937) also donated 1,500 pounds of goods to local charities while visiting La Quinta. Since then, a number of other ships have located themselves in La Quinta including the USS Enterprise (1945), the USS Yorktown (1989), and most recently the USCGC Powhatan (2015). These warships have brought with them a wide variety of gifts such as clothing, appliances, cars, livestock and even furniture! Some notable gifts that have been given away by navy deployed personnel include: The USS Enterprise sent an appliance package filled with over 50 different items including kitchenware, dishes and cups; In 2010, HMS Warrior donated two carloads of clothes and accessories; In 2013-2014, HMS Ocean sent a shipment filled with nearly 30 items including lamps/light bulbs/TV sets; . In 2017-2018, HMS Illustrious contributed 2 pairs OF shoes along with shampoo & conditioner; . Additionally in 2018-2019 there was a large shipment sent from HMCS Winnipeg which consisted of over 60 piecesof luggage worth over $10K!

Penney opened a store in what is now known as the Old Post Office building on Main Street (now called Calle Real). He named it "La Quinta" after his rancho, La Mesa de la Quinta, which he had bought near Palm Springs in 1849. In 1892, businessman Julius Rosenwald purchased land adjacent to La Quinta and built one of America's first shopping malls, called "Rosenwald Plaza". Today, La Quinta remains an active farming community with many acres of prime farmland that are used for crops such as grapes and olive trees; however, some of the older homes still stand around the town center. There are also several golf courses within walking distance of the center (including one owned by Microsoft).

La Quinta (Latin for "the five") is a small city in San Bernardino County, California. It is the capital of the La Quinta Metropolitan Statistical Area and has a population of just over 21,000. The first European to visit what is now La Quinta was José Gabriel Moraga on October 25, 1769. He named it after his Rancho San Bernardino de las Pulgas (now part of Redlands). The Moraga Adobe Complex near downtown La Quinta contains twoadobe structures dating back to 1881: the Moraga Adobe and the Pedro Menéndez Adobe. Two other early buildings are the Los Angeles Post Office Building and the First National Bank Building. In 1925, Don Bruce Ahlquist became manager of la quintanagas oil field in northern Ventura County and decided to build a town around it. He started construction on what would become Ahlquist City in 1928. In 1932, he sold the town to Richard Lutz who renamed it Ahlquist Village. In 1937, Don Bruce Ahlquist died suddenly and was buried in the new town cemetery; however, his wife still maintained her ownership interest in Ahlquist Village until her death in 1984. The original Town Hall building designed by architect George Atherton was used as both a schoolhouse and an office from 1926-1957 before being replaced by the current building which opened in 1957 with interior features inspired by Mediterranean Revival architecture popular at that time including arches, Ionic pilasters and Tuscan columns found throughout Southern California during that era according to Jerry Burchfield's article "A History of La Quinta" published in 2003 on la quintaperiodical website www2sdbxjrvsufkuaoei@mailonline). The current building served as an administrative headquarters for various civic organizations including fire protection districts from 1957-1978 when they were moved from Yorba Linda; then again from 1978-1997 when they were moved to La Quinta; finally their current location since 1997 due to lack of space at Yorba Linda High School where they currently stand unused today next door to Foothill College's chemistrycore laboratory complex upon which much of their infrastructure rests such as power & water systems., prior thereto serving as an office for various real estate firms localizing maps of properties etc.. Some exterior features include an octagon shaped tower built atop an earlier garage structure which housed administration/maintenance functions while also providing classrooms/office spaces above ground level.; later additions include six stories high spanned by a large cantilevered metal girder roof system clad with copper sheeting typical of post-war American housing projects.; Finally ground floor units contain community center facilities such as weight room/badminton court/indoor swimming pool/etc., while upper levels house individual apartments or businesses.)
