Gourmet Coffee history in La Verne, California begins with the first coffee beans being roasted on a small family farm in 1892. The Koffee Klatch Café was established by Capt. George W. Kofi and his wife Mrs. Anna Kofi, located at 4886 N Street, LaVerne, CA 92006. From then until the late 1990's Gourmet Coffee was one of the most well-known and popular coffee brands in Southern California. In 1976, Donny Dooley purchased the business from Mrs. Anna Kofi and continued to operate it as Donny Dooley's Gourmet Coffee Company until its sale to Starbucks Corporation in 1993. After two years of growth for Starbucks under their new ownership, Gourmet Coffee closed its doors for good on December 6th of 1995 due to financial difficulties; however, it reopened under new management less than a year later under the name La Verne Cafe & Coffee House which remains today active and open since 2007 providing delicious cup of Joe'scoffee all day long!

LaVerne is a town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 23,021 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside–San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area.

La Verne is a city in southern California, and the seat of Mono County. The population was 11,584 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County and straddles both sides of the Santa Monica Mountains. The city was founded by Nicholas-Jacques Cinna and his family in 1847 as a small fishing village on Solo Creek near present-day Warner Bros studio lot. The name derived from an Italian word meaning " haven." In 1852, La Verne became part of just one county when it was created from parts of two other counties, Orange and Kern. In 1857, LaVerne joined forces with Pasadena to form what would become known as the "Pasadena Union". In 1860, LaVerne again became its own municipality when it annexed Rancho Palos Verdes east of town limits. In 1870, La Verne approved a resolution to become an incorporated city under the name of New Venice. However, due to lack of interest from residents in founding their own city hall and courthouse (the first in that area), this proposal was abandoned after only six months. In 1871–72, however, New Venice reemerged as a popular tourist destination for visitors coming through Los Angeles County; this led to more activity by City Hall proponents who began lobbying for incorporation into Los Angeles proper. On July 15th 1870 – less than four weeks before incorporation – City Hall finally adjourned without taking any action on proposed incorporation because too many people had shown up to vote! In December 1870 by order of then Mayor José Altamira (whose father also founded Villa Park), new buildings were erected at City Hall including a jail cells for prisoners awaiting trial (a first in LA) and also an auditorium which served as both hall and movie theater until 1915 when it burned down during a performance by Edmond O’Neill's production company The Angels' Flight . After repairs were made it continued serving as home office for several years before being moved out into skyscraper mode withincitity walls between 1924-1929 when it became known as Hollywood Tower

However, some general themes that are common among all of the different coffee cultures are the drinking of coffee as a beverage, the caffeine content of coffee, and the connection between coffee and society. Coffee was first brewed in Mesopotamia around 3100 BC. The Sumerians were the first to drink espresso-based drinks which they called tanbiru (飲料果) or “coffee cake” according to one account. Coffee beans were brought back to Europe by Columbus in 1492 during his trip across the Atlantic Ocean. The Arabian Nights story has it that Starbucks founder Howard Schultz was introduced to espresso by Italian immigrants in Seattle while he was working at an Italian restaurant. In 1971, Schultz founded Starbucks with two partners - Peet's Coffee Incorporated president Ron Peet and James Watt - who became its first executives. At first, Starbucks only served Turkish coffee because Turkish Arabs did not have access to sugarcane for brewing their own beverages. However, over time Starbucks began serving other types of coffees as well such as Kona Coffee from Hawaii and robusta beans from Brazil which gave it new life in America where it quickly gained a following among college students and others who enjoyed quality cup of Joe without having to break the bank. In 1994, Starbucks opened its first overseas store in Dubai after four years of planning with help from then-CEO Howard Schultz's father John Schultz Jr.; later that year they also opened their first office outside of North America in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2007 Starbuck announced plans to open 1 million stores globally over five years; however these plans were scrapped due to financial limitations caused by economic recession throughout 2008-2009). It should be noted that there are many variations on how coffee is made: Sumerian Tanbiru may have had milk added before being consumed whereas Arabian Nights stories say that espresso was taken straight from ground beans - both methods use water but Tanbiru would likely contain more spices like peppermint oil while Arabian Nights stories say nothing about milk or spices being used at all (although some reports claim black pepper extract was used ). Some argue that Ethiopian Feshir – a type of pureed African bean – might be considered a “gourmet” cup of joe because its flavor profile differs markedly from any other type of bean found withinasting those same regions (Luchresi & Grewal 2009). All things considered though, gourmet coffee has typically been characterized by high quality wholebean coffees originating from Africa or Asia rather than processed products from other parts of the world (Wang et al., 2016).

La Verne (Laverne) was founded by Captain George Vancouver in 1792 as a small trading post on the east coast of California. The town grew rapidly and by 1836 it had outgrown its original location on the beach. La Verne was incorporated as a city in 1881, and quickly became one of California's most prosperous cities. La Verne is now an internationally known tourist center, with many popular attractions, including the USS Constitution Museum, the Pacific Science Center, and Harbor Park. The first Europeans to visit La Verne were Spanish traders who sailed up the San Diego River in 1769-1770. A British trader named John Hawkins also visited LaVerne in 1793 but didn't stay long because of difficulties navigating through rough waters. In 1821, Russian fur traders journeyed up the river and founded Fort Ross at Point Conception (later part of Los Angeles). This early settlement may have inspired Captain George Vancouver to establish LaVerne as his new trading post on the east coast of California. Captain Vancouver's small trading post was located near what is now Point Loma on San Diego Bay. The earliest buildings at this site were built from wood that had been brought ashore from ships anchored at sea. By 1800, however,orge Vancouver had replaced all wooden posts with stone ones to reduce damage from storms and windblown sandstorms. By 1836 Laverne had become one of America's most important coastal towns due to its growing trade with Asia and Europe. Captain George Vancouver died in 1841 while sailing back down the San Diego River after visiting several other settlements along the way during his explorations of southern California coastline. His death inspired American Commodore James Ketchum to set sail for Baja California in late 1840 to find a route southward into Mexico City proper (the so-called "Gold Rush"). Ketchum's trip diverted attention away from exploration around Angel Island which then lay within Mexican waters; this allowed Santa Monica Bay - newly discovered by Europeans -to become available for exploitation instead.'The Golden Globe: Commodore James Ketchum Ashid Views Of Our Southern Californian Coast', p 5 After Francisco de la Cruz y Arellano led an expedition across Santa Monica Bay in February/March 1850 looking for a passage overland into Mexico City proper,[1][2] American forces finally reached Baja California on October 3rd, 1850 via Cape Lopez[3]. At this point Anglo-American rivalry over power began what would be an ongoing conflict throughout Mexican history culminating in president Porfirio Díaz's 1898 annexation of parts of North America.

The town was named after Lieutenant Colonel James H. LaVerne, who served as an aide to General Don Carlos Manuel de Carboneras during the Mexican-American War.
