The La Verne National Guard has been present in the city of LaVerne since 1907. The current unit was organized on November 9, 1907 as the San Bernardino County National Guard. Initially it was composed of men from San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. On December 6, 1909, the unit was redesignated as the La Verne Regiment of Volunteers. ultimately becoming a national guard unit under the United States Army Reserve system on July 1, 1916. In 1940- 1941, there were only twelve members in the regiment because World War II began before it had a chance to grow. The regiment grew rapidly after Pearl Harbor happened and all citizens were ordered to report for military service without proper notice or cause. By 1944 there were over 300 men in the regiment with an active duty strength of 2 officers and 24 enlisted men per battalion. As American troops advanced through Europe they needed replacements so draft forms started being filled up even though no one knew when or where war would start. The first enlistees came back stateside in 1945 but by 1946 there were already 350 men available for mobilization so more than 1000 volunteer soldiers got called up into National Guard units across America including our own La Verne Regiment which also saw active duty during that time frame working together with other units like California’s Desert Rats and Nevada’s Militia Units just ready to fight any possible Axis aggression coming their way should Germany declare themselves an empire again (this never happened). In total we served in World War II plus Korea and Vietnam totaling over 5 years on various fronts including 4 years overseas where I am sure many Soldiers paid with their lives or lost them forevermore due to combat exposure etc… It is really amazing how something as small as donations can have such a large impact in history especially when you look at what some people have done for us over these many years!

La Verne is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. La Verne was founded on September 17, 1853 by Captain John Borah and his wife Emmeline P. From the 1850s to the early 1900s it was known as an agricultural center due to its wealth in citrus fruit and other crops. In recent decades La Verne has become an industrial center with heavy concentration of technology companies and their workers. The population of LaVerne was 73,711 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit what is now LaVerne were Spanish traders who passed through in 1802 looking for sugarcane fields in Southern California. Captain John Borah, a pioneer settler and captain of the ship "Nova", landed on July 12, 1853 on Rancho Rinconada near present-day downtown LaVerne from El Dorado Hills. He named the land las Animas (the animals). The first houses were built on this site around 1860 by Captains George Wemyss and Hiram Eaton. In 1863,Captain James Irvine discovered oil while exploring alongside Commodore Perry's flagship HMS Erebus off Point Conception; Irvine drilled two wells within days of each other at what is now Rinconada Heights and called them "Los Angeles" Well No 2 upon discovering that he had found natural gas inside a tight rock formation which he named "Torrey Canyon". On November 3rd 1865 a party led by Captain Jens Christensen arrived at la Paloma de las Vegas (), Seal Beach (). They encountered Indians who reported seeing white men coming downriver but no one followed up because they thought they must be Spanish traders seeking passage to Mexico City or Acapulco. Instead they found goldbearing rocks () which were later worked by prospectors including George Stephenson Winthrop (1812–72) who discovered gold at Comayagua Creek in 1848 with his partner David Hennepin (). By 1870 there were over 20 miners operating out of Los Angeles well No 2., many working for adobe builders Pemberton & Company () under lease from Rinconada Landowners Association (). In 1870 Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas Saroyan commanding Ulysses S Grant's Military Division invaded southern California during the Mexican American War (1846-1848). When General Kearny reached Baja California Sur he ordered General Zachary Taylor's brigade under Lt Col Edward Bragg march southward towards Nacogdoches whereuponTaylor met Major General Antonio López de Santa Anna's forces marching northward from Chihuahua across Wilson Pass into Sonora without orders These delays cost much life as thousands died building military roads between Baja Californias ports of Morelia and Tijuana crossing over Genoese Lagoon before finally reaching Nacogdoches just south of today's MexicaliCity after marching more than 1700 miles nonstop! At night mass portable lamps had been set up along routes so travelers could find their way camped out along ancient trade trails A few weeks later troops burned most all supplies remaining at Obregon Barracks east of Calexico before arriving near modern day Mexicali City October 16th 1847 less then 8 miles from town! Thereafter about 50 men assembled smallpox vaccine works Confederate States Army Dr James Fenton organized local militiaJanuary 1st 1861 when pro-slavery zealots began mobs besieging old Mission San Francisco de Asís eXplored January 15th 1861 darkly entering building torch slaying all 7 religious scholars family pets mutilated!) Today only ruins remain structures oldest being structure built here circa 1800.)
The National Guard has been a part of the United States since 1790. The first unit to be formed as a national guard was in Rhode Island on July 14, 1790. The Rhode Island National Guard was the first uniformed force in the United States. The Guardsmen of America were organized on November 6, 1801 and their first battle was against British regulars at Narragansett Bay on December 4th. It wasn’t until 1862 that all Guards units were consolidated into one organization called the First Regiment American Volunteer Infantry (FVAI). In 1916, Congress passed an act providing for the organization of aNational Guard Bureau within the War Department. This bureau would manage all aspects of volunteer military activity by state governments and local organizations across the country. On May 15, 1921, President Warren G Harding signed legislation creating two new regiments – ten companies each – in order to provide combat readiness for future wars. All members of these units must have served at least five years in their local unit before they could join the National Guard. There have been many changes to how the National Guard is used since it began its history including: World Wars I and II; Desert Storm; Hurricane Katrina; and 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks which required mobilization of over 1 million men and women from across America for Operation Enduring Freedom
