The USS Constitution's crew had participated in Operation Neptune's Spear which was an amphibious assault against the Korean War’s People’s Republic of Korea. The USS Constitution and her destroyers were part of Task Group 53.2 which sailed from Yokosuka Naval Base on Japan on December 3rd 1951 as part ofOperation Neptune's Spear. This operation was designed to support amphibious assaults against North Korea using warships and Marines from Hawaii and Southern California as well as ships from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands Antilles and Singapore. A total of 16 warships completed their deployment with 11 providing cover for Carrier Strike Groups 1-3 each while 5 supported other carrier task forces operating off South Korea or Japan. after successful operations against North Korea Task Group 53.2 returned to Yokosuka Naval Base early January 1952 where they underwent final preparations for their return voyage home after completing exercises off Okinawa Shuri Island on January 22nd 1952 followed by another exercise at Ulithi Atoll on February 8th 1952 before arriving back in Hawaii late March 1952

The city has been named one of "America's Great Neighborhoods" for its ability to accommodate growth while maintaining its unique character.
La Verne was founded on December 27, 1846 by James M. LaVerne and his partner, George Goodwin. The original site of La Verne was a small cove on the southern coast of San Francisco Bay. In 1849, LaVerne developed a harbor at Point Lobos and in 1850, he founded the city of La Verne with land that he had purchased from the Native American tribe of Mission Dolores. In 1853, LaVerne built a wharf to serve his new city, which became an important commercial center for California's interior. In 1861, La Verne won passage of the California Constitution and became an independent state within the United States. He donated land to build what is now downtown LAvernese and continued to be its main financial backer until his death in 1893. The City of LAvernese remains one of its most important cultural centers today.
