The units that currently make up the National Guard were organized on September 15, 1903 when a group of soldiers from the state of California joined forces with those from other states to form aregulated militia. In 1912, artillery batteries and infantry companies were organized and trained in preparation for World War I. In 1922, an air defense battalion was formed; two years later, the first unit of cavalry also arrived. The National Guard has played an important role in local communities across America ever since. The current (2018) incarnation of the Lafayette National Guard is made up of over 100 individual units spread out across nine counties in southern California. This diverse force includes riflemen and pistols as well as support troops such as engineers and cooks/butchers. Each unit is committed to its own unique mission—from providing manpower for law enforcement efforts to guarding vital infrastructure such as bridges and airports—and each soldier brings something different to the table. National Guardsmen can be called up for any type of emergency situation short notice including natural disasters like hurricanes Katrina or Sandy, war games like Operation Neptune's Spear, financial emergencies such as when President George W Bush ordered US troops withdrawn from Iraq without warning (the deployment was later rescinded), riots or civil disturbances where law enforcement cannot patrol due to fear for their lives (as happened in Baltimore after Freddie Gray died), or major sporting events like Super Bowl XLVII or The Masters golf tournament which cause traffic jams on highways around Los Angeles County because so many people want to see live sport action outdoors at one time!
The National Guard has been in Lafayette, California since 1849. The first American military unit to be stationed in the city was the 1st Infantry Regiment of California Volunteers, which arrived on July 20, 1849. In 1861, the Army's First Brigade of California Volunteers arrived and soon became part of the 3rd Division of the Union army under General Ulysses S. Grant. The brigade was transferred to Fremont County and organized into a regiment on December 5, 1861. On January 10, 1862, General Ulysses S. Grant ordered all Confederate forces in Northern California to disband and remove themselves from any connection with the Southern Confederacy. The regiment disbanded on February 9th and re-organized as Company C of the 2nd Battalion (Californian) Californian Infantry Regiment at Fort Mason near San Francisco Bay before moving south to join Major General John Boggs' brigade at Shafter Barracks near Yuma on March 14th for an upcoming winter campaign against Confederate forces in Arizona Territory. In 1865, Company C was mustered out at Fort Mason and re-organized as Company F of battalion (2nd Cal). Reaching Prescott Valley on October 15th they relieved a detachment sent there by Brigadier General George Halleck order upon his arrival from Tucson Arizona Territory after defeating Confederate forces at Gila River Bridge over that stream November 6th 1865 Company F then joined Major General John Boggs' brigade at YumaMarch 14th for an upcoming winter campaign against Confederate forces in Arizona Territory
Lafayette is a small community located in the East Bay region of San Francisco, California. The town was founded on February 14, 1834 by General Lafayette and his wife Marie Antoinette as the tiny hamlet of La Fayette. By 1860, Lafayette had grown to a population of just over 100 residents and it became an incorporated city on January 1, 1871. In 1907, Lafayette was renamed for General James H. Mason after he helped lead American forces into battle at Monterey during World War II. It has since experienced some significant growth and expansion, becoming one of the most populous cities in Northern California by 2010. The National Guard was first organized in 1792 as a militia service to protect American settlers from Native Americans. After the Revolutionary War, the Militia Act of 1792 created an army of militia units to help suppress Native American resistance and defended America against potential threats from abroad. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Congress passed the National Security Act to create a national guard system in case of war with Confederate States of America. The act also authorized establishment of artillery and cavalry divisions within each state regiment. After World War II, there was a big increase in National Guard troops deployed overseas in various wars including Korea (1949-1950), Vietnam (1960-1975), and Cambodia (1979). Since 2001, there has been an increasing trend among states across the United States to establish their own National Guard forces through legislation known as "National Guardsmen Bill" (). These bills allow governors to call up certain numbers of Guardsmen for duty without having to go through traditional channels such as being sent for training by Army or Marine Commanders or undergoing annual muster procedures with local militaries.
Lafayette was founded on December 4, 1824 by Captain John C. Fremont and his wife, Eliza G. Huntington. The site of the current town was a small creek that flowed through the center of what is now Lafayette. The first post office in Lafayette was established on December 3, 1827. The town grew quickly due to the trade routes that ran through it - goods such as beaver fur were transported from Russia to California via Lafayette, then down the Santa Fe Trail to New Mexico and Arizona. In 1835, General Mariano Rivera took command of an expedition against California and built Fort Laramie near present-day Lyon for this purpose. In 1840, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna surrendered Mexican City to American forces under Ulysses S. Grant at Buena Vista Creek in what is now Pasadena County. American settlers began arrive in large numbers in central California during this time - many of whom converted to Christianity and named their new towns after Protestant saints like Thomas Edison or Andrew Johnson
