The Laguna Beach Air Force Base is home to the Southern California Air National Guard's (SCANA) 191st Airlift Wing, which was activated on 1 July 1949. The wing has an inventory of Boeing KC-135 Stratotankers and McDonnell Douglas MD-11 passenger jets. In 1954, the SCANA 187th Airlift Wing was activated at Laguna Beach as a part of Republic Services Corporation's program to expand airlift capacity in southern California. The wing shared its facilities with the 191st Airlift Wing until 1 November 1969 when Republic merged with American Airlines to form American Airlines Corporation. In 1992, the SCANA 189th Airlift Wing was activated at Laguna Beach and shares itsfacilities with the 191st Airlift Wing. On 15 December 2006, it was announced that TRW Aviation would be providing new KC-130J Globemaster III aircraft for service with the SCANA 192d Airlift Wing which will become operational on 21 January 2007. These planes are also being used by Republic Services Corporation and other agencies within Southern California airlift services such as Bellsouth Airways and Empire Airways Group Inc.. On 22 October 2009, it was announced that TRW would be providing an additional three KC-130Js for use by the brigade fly team of the 192nd Airlift Wing in support of operations in Afghanistan from 8 - 12 February 2010; these planes will join nine Lockheed Martin C-5 Galaxy transports already based at LAGB Airport serving this mission.

Laguna Beach is a small town in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 30,651 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Pacific Ocean's north coast. The town was founded by Mormons in 1892 as a Mormon settlement on Laguna Beach Pier. In 1923, it became part of the newly created city of Newport Beach and then again in 1968 when Laguna Beach became an unincorporated community within Newport Beach limits. The merger was opposed by some residents who felt that they were still separate municipalities with their own governing body and services. On October 3, 1986 however, voters approved splitting off as an independent city known as "Laguna beach" with its own mayor and council members. The town has experienced significant growth over the years due to its location on the ocean's north coast and its popularity for visitors who seek beacheside activities such as swimming and sunbathing; however, noise concerns have also been raised about recent development projects in the area including high-rise apartments near Menaul Boulevard. Additionally there has been concern about how well prepared Laguna beach is to handle future surges in tourism which could bring large amounts of development without providing enough infrastructure or services to support it.
