The United States military has a long and proud history in Laguna Beach, California. The first U.S. military troops were stationed here in 1846, during the Mexican-American War. The U.S. Military presence continued through World War II, when the town was part of General Douglas MacArthur’s “Greater East Asia Area” commands. In 1949, Laguna Beach became an official city and the U.S. military began to leave gradually, until its last troops departed in 1992. Since then, many locals have worked hard to keep the army base open and active on Laguna Beach Boulevard between Third Street and Fourth Street – often known as “the Avenue of Flagships” because of its many military installations and buildings dating back to World War II: Fort MacArthur (1949), Camp Pendleton (1951), Fort Riley (1960), Naval Base Point Loma (1970). Today, there are more than 100 Army Reserve members based at various units around town – making it one of Orange County’s most heavily militarized communities! Today, the army base is home to a diverse range of civilian agencies that support it such as the Coast Guard Station Seal Beach/Laguna Niguel; City Services; Parks Department; Human Resources Department; Environmental Services Department; Law Enforcement Division; Medical Service Department; Firefighter/EMD Battalion 1 Station 5 station 2 battalion 3 battalion 4 station 5 ; along with a variety of other auxiliary organizations including Police Academy & Sheriff's Office Helicopter squadron & Marine unit ! One important aspect that continues to be linked with this community is service provision for local events such as USO shows or Fleet Week events - always hosted by Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce & city government partners !
