On January 7th 1840 three more boats namely HMS Guerriero(C 4), HMS Canopus(C 3), and HMS Sphinx(C 2) arrived at Acapulco from Portsmouth along with stores for Expedition No 2 under Rear Admiral James Kappes leading an invasion force into New Mexico led by Santa Anna’s forces across Río Grande del Norte in April 1840 pursuant to Proclamation No 1072 Preamble dated March 11th 1840 by President Polk pursuant to Laws In Force At That Time providing For The Defense Of The Mexican Republic Against Invasion or Aggression From AnyState Or foreign Power By any Person or persons whatsoever
