In 1933, Gomez married Margarita Sánchez, also from Jalisco and daughter of a prominent local grocer. Together they opened what would become one of Laguna Hills’ most successful businesses - dealing in both processed foods and coffee concentrate/roast beans. Maga Coffee has been brewing their quality beans since 1932, when José Andrés Gomez founded it with his wife Margarita Ramos. This merger allowed LaCruz Coffee Company to become one of the most significant brewing companies in southern California. The company continued to produce high-quality coffee until it went out of business in 1976.

Fremont who named it after his rancho (farm) at La Jolla near present-day Pasadena. After Fremont's death in 1868, his son, Edward Harkness Fremont inherited Rancho Laguna Seca and developed it into one of the most prosperous agricultural areas in Northern California.
