The Fleet Marine Force’s (FMF)Task Force 77 deployed aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 73) in 1951 as part ofOperation Restore Our Heritage. As part of Operation Neptune Spear, USS Theodore Roosevelt transported humanitarian aid to Guam during the typhoon season. In 1992, USS John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier sailed into San Diego Harbor with a shipment of 1,500 pounds of humanitarian supplies for Haiti Earthquake Relief. In 2003, FMF Task Force 139 deployed aboard USS Philippine Sea (LPH 3), making it one of only two foreign deployments by US forces in that year. The deployment was in support of Operation Enduring Freedom – Afghanistan. In October 2006, USS Coral Sea (LHD 5) left NAS Point Mugu with a load of military vehicles and equipment for the Northern African country Libya. The gift transport also included 2 large helicopters which would be used for waterborne search and rescue missions after devastating earthquakes struck regions throughout central Africa on January 29th & 30th 2006. On May 9th 2007 VMFA-9 donated an American Battlecruiser HMS Vengeance to the Egyptian Navy at Sharm el Sheikh Port Complex for repairs/upkeep following damage incurred during Desert Storm operations in 1991 while serving as part of Commander Seventh Fleet’s “Hercules” task group commanded by Rear Admiral Elmo Zumwalt Jr., USN(Ret). Following this donation ceremony Vice Admiral Harry Harris assumed command from Rear Admiral Zumwalt who had served as CO HMCS Ontario since November 2005 when she relieved HMCS Victoria upon her retirement from active service at Groton Naval Base Connecticut USA after 37 years naval service including 12 years commanding shipboard duty afloat including 4 years commanding Task Group 3821 which took delivery from Lion's Arch Marina Maryland USA on July 20th 1990 ready for deployment to take delivery on September 3rd 1990 under commandant First Class Michael Jaffe UDT( Ret). She was delivered on December 15th 1990 just before her firstactivation cruise which commenced February 14 th -February 25 th 1991 under Commander Third Fleet headquartered at Naples Italy with Carrier Strike Group 8 led by CVW41 Commodore Don Harriman USN A total Of fifteen ships were operated by TF 77 during its activation: four ships SMS Gelo Himmelsborn and Doge Grisone; three destroyers escort carriers Nimitz class: Reagan (CVN 74), BollingbrokeII(CVN 71), John F.-KennedyCAG(CVN 80); two submarines per squadron: Bravo Two Zero (SSBN 653), Scimitar SSGN 727; one coastal artillery battery per squadron: Howitzer Battery M3-4; one helibird: AH-64D Apache helicopter unit assigned to TF 77 detachment attached to VMFA-9.]]> Photos courtesy US Navy photo library

Laguna Hills, CA is a city located in Orange County, California. The population was 17,796 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The name "Laguna Hills" comes from Rancho Laguna de la Paloma de los Olivos, which was granted to Juan Bautista Alvarado by Spanish Governor Pico de la Hoz on November 5, 1776. The grant included most of what is now Laguna Hills and parts of La Habra and Anaheim. Laguna Hills was founded on May 10, 1887 by Leroy Sweeny and his brother-in-law Waddell Hodgkinson as a small citrus orchard and grazing ranchlet about four miles (6 km) east of downtown Los Angeles. Development began immediately with the construction of roads and homes in what are now Sherman Oaks and Bel Air neighborhoods south of Interstate 405. In 1912, Southern Pacific Railroad built an railroad station just east of present day Laguna Hills Boulevard on their line between Westwood Village in Hollywood and Long Beach; this opened up much agricultural land for development around that time. In 1925 US Airways Flight 815 crashed into an overpass near Northridge during its maiden flight; as a result three people were killed and more than 60 injured when the aircraft came down across I-5 from San Bernardino County into Laguna Hills Boulevard almost immediately thereafter

This tradition began during World War II when America was at war with Japan. In 1945, the United States found itself fighting for control of Europe after Japan had surrendered. The navy needed to find another way to distribute supplies and troops so they could continue their fight against Germany and France. To this day, the navy deployment process still uses many of the same tools and methods that were used during World War II. In 1951, President Harry Truman ordered all American naval forces into Korea in order to help stop North Korea from becoming a communist state. This was one of the first time that America had ever deployed its armed forces overseas. After arriving in South Korea, America’s navy formed Task Force 77 which was responsible forsea patrols and fighter jets that escorted U-boats while they hunted for submarines off Korean coastline. At this point in its history, America’s navy was still using ships and planes from World War II to conduct its operations in Asia. The Vietnam War started in 1967 and lasted until 1975. The task force known as TF boat 58 played an important role in support of ground units throughout the conflict by patrolling waterways near Saigon and Ho Chi Minh City as well as providing firepower when necessary. One particular Operation Neptune Spear took place on July 30th 1969 when over 100 boats carrying Marines invaded Chinh Thuan River Delta looking for Viet Cong combatants who had infiltrated farmer communities across rural Vietnam guerilla warfare continued unabated
