The Coast Guard has been providing coastal security in the Bay Area since 1915. The first Coast Guard station was established at Laguna Niguel on November 25, 1915. In 1951, the Coast Guard moved to its present location at Point Conception Park and began a full-time coast guard presence. The current force of 148 officers and civilians provides a variety of services including search and rescue, maritime security, traffic control and public education. Creston Copley served as Inspector General for the Department of Homeland Security from 2006-2009; he is now an adjunct professor at George Washington University’s School of Public Affairs where he teaches courses on homeland security policymaking and management. The Coast Guard has been providing assistance to the local community in Laguna Niguel, California for over a century. In 1915, officers from the Coast Guard Station at Point Conception founded the Laguna Niguel Volunteer Fire Department. The first fire department was staffed by volunteer firefighters from Laguna Niguel and other nearby communities. In 1951, the Coast Guard formed a battalion of six coast guard brigades to provide covering security for large ships docking at Long Beach Naval Shipyard. These brigades were later renamed as coastal patrol divisions and are still part of the Coast Guard today. In 1967, the Commandant of the Coast Guards established a Lake Tahoe detachment to provide support for search and rescue operations in that area. That same year, a new station was constructed onshore at Point Conception and named after Lt. Commander John Waddell who had served with distinction as commanding officer of Squadron VF-4 during World War II. In 1984, an additional station was built on shore at Zuma Beach and named after Captain Harry Jumper who had spearheaded Operation Neptune’s Spear which led to Japan’s surrender in 1945. In 1995, another station was built onshore at Carlsbad and named after First Lieutenant James Ahern who had acted as commandant of Sector IX during Operation Desert storm/Operation Planetside .

They named the area Los Tres Empresarios because they were 3 men who ran a ranch there. In 1845, American missionaries came to Lnigualtos and started teaching Christianity to the Cahuilla people. In 1850, Thomas Edison built his experimental lab near Laguna Niguel Lake and started experiments with Electricity in this location. This made Lnigualtos an important stop on lengthy Electric Railroad route from San Francisco to Pasadena

Laguna Niguel, California is a small city in southern Orange County, California on the east side of the San Joaquin Valley. It is named after the Spanish word "lago" meaningLake and "niguel" meaning neck or head. The name was given to the valley by the Miwok people who called it Hummingbird Valley. The original land that now makes up Laguna Niguel was part of Rancho San Miguel de la Laguna, which was granted to Juan Bautista Alvarado by King Ferdinand II of Spain in 1795. In 1821, Mexican land grants were issued for parts of what are now Orange and Riverside Counties. In 1835, Mission San Francisco de Asís (founded in 1777) was founded here and soon began serving as a religious center for Latinos in Southern California. In 1850, when California became an independent country under US rule, Laguna Niguel became part of Los Angeles County. At first most inhabitants worked on adjacent ranchos but later many developed their own homes and businesses around town square which continues to be home to many current residents including entrepreneurs such as Chuck Epps and Jeff Koons
In 1849, the explorer and scientist Manuel Nieto discovered Laguna Niguel. This area was then known as Rancho San Luis Rey. The first European settlers arrived in this area in 1851. They were the Franciscan friars who founded the Mission San Antonio de la Laguna on the site of present-day Laguna Niguel. In 1875, a group of businessmen from Los Angeles bought the Rancho San Luis Rey and established it as a cattle ranch. The ranch continued to be operated by these gentlemen until 1899 when it was purchased by an agricultural company named John Sutter. From 1899 to 1912, the ranch was managed by Harry Chandler Jr., son of Harry Chandler Sr. In 1912, ownership passed from Mr. Chandler to his brother-in-law, Charles Fenton Webb III, who also ran it for about 20 years until it was sold to Donald Owens in 1944.
