In 1957, Fleet Air Arm unit No 1 activated at NavalBase McGuire and came under Headquarters US Pacific Fleet until it was disbanded in 1972 when HQ Far East Command took over control of Fleet Air Arm units afloat worldwide. HMAS "AUSTRALIA", now CVE-106 operated out of NAS Laguna Niguel from early 1941 until her decommissioning in 1945."
