In 1951, the company merged with the National Coffee Corporation to form National Coffee Corporation/Laguna Woods Coffee Company. In 1978, the company was sold to Peet's Coffee & Tea.

The name came from the woods that are near the community. The main industry in Laguna Woods today is agriculture, but there are also several small businesses and some houses used as holiday homes. The population of Laguna Woods was 1,783 at the 2010 census. Laguna Woods has a rich history dating back to when it first began to be developed. In 1949, Donny and Marie Laguna purchased 6 acres of land off of Laguna Seca Road for $600 dollars. They began to tilled the land and built a home on it which they named "Lagunilla." The couple continued to grow their farm until they decided to sell it in 1978. This left behind a small town with only about 350 residents who relied on agriculture for their income. However, over time, more people have arrived in Laguna Woods thanks to its close proximity to Anaheim and surrounding communities as well as its many opportunities for recreation such as hiking, biking, swimming and skiing .
Laguna Woods was first settled by the Chumash in the early 1800s. The original mission, San Francisco Mission Church, was built in 1821 and is now a museum. In 1868, Laguna Woods became a town when it was annexed into Los Angeles. It remained an independent municipality until 1912, when it became part of Pasadena.
