The Lake Elsinore Coast Guard Station was founded in 1916 as a result of the merger of two predecessor organizations, the California Coast Guard and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The station is one of eighteen coast guard stations located in California. It is responsible for protecting inland waterways and coastline, providing law enforcement services, conducting search and rescue operations, and escorting vessels through local waters. In addition to its primary mission, the Coast Guard Station also offers a wide variety of programs that support residents and visitors in their community. Lake Elsinore is in the San Bernardino Mountains, about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The surface of the lake is a series of broad ridges and valleys, with a maximum depth of 118 feet. The water is crystal clear, with a greenish tint due to chlorophyll. There are several small islands in the center of the lake. The first Europeans to sight Lake Elsinore were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and his men on October 14, 1542, when they landed on an Islet near present-day Claremont. They named it "Isla de los Reyes" (Island of the Kings). In 1821, William Hitt bought land around what is now Lake Elsinore from José Antonio Landoval for $600 per acre. He built a sawmill and began to grow fruit trees on his property. In 1825, he sold most of his holdings to George Hearst for $4 million dollars. In 1892, Alvarado Sanchez filled up part of Lake Elsinore with concrete and laid down a track for wagon trains used by farmers bringing their produce to market in nearby Riverside and Orange counties. When demand grew too high for the limited supply of concrete, Alvarado discontinued operations in 1897; however, he left some evidence that still remains at various locations around town today including an Old Spanish Mission Chapel (now part of Cathedral Park) and the Sanchez Adobe Ruins which are also preserved as part of City Park.. In 1913 John Muir visited Lake Elsinore while on vacation in Southern California; he took notes about its natural beauty before writing articles about it for magazines such as " McClure's Magazine". Yosemite National Park was created as a result: Muir had wanted to protect both lakes so that they could be considered one body politic rather than two separate entities

Lake Elsinore is a beautiful, fresh-water body located in southwestern Kern County, California. The lake was formed about 12 million years ago when the San Andreas Fault broke open and forced molten rock and ash down into the local basin. Over time, water has receded from the area and now it's a dry, dusty place with very few fish and no wildlife. However, in 1889 it became one of the first places in America to be named after a Mediterranean climate city—the site being chosen because of its abundance of palm trees. The town that grew up around Lake Elsinore began as an agricultural community which functioned as an important shipping point for goods coming down the valley. By 1870 there were over 100 businesses in town and many people worked on farms or ranched out land. By 1892 all but five of those businesses had closed due to lack of demand for produce or services from residents; however, some new businesses started up such as a hotel (1893) and post office (1895). In 1907 Hollywood film producer Harry Cohn donated money to create Griffith Park which included land adjacent to what is now Lake Elsinore Boulevard. The park was used for horseback riding, swimming, tennis, hiking, camping and more during its early years. In 1922 tensions between Los Angeles County and Kern County led to violence which continued until 1924 when both counties signed an agreement that modified ranching regulations so that properties within their respective boundaries would become part of Forest Service lands instead of private hands.—This arrangement allowed access by county officials to limited resources while also allowing development near populated areas.—As a result of this change in ownership many homes were built along busy streets such as La Brea Avenue.—By 1959 only two homes remained on that street.—It wasn't until 1984 that developers succeeded in tearing down most of these houses along with any other infrastructure associated with their production process.—Today much of what once existed along La Brea Avenue is still visible although there are now several blocks away where development has taken place.—Although not always easy to visit today due to traffic congestion caused by redevelopment efforts.,El Sinore offers beautiful views across Highway 58 towards downtown Los Angeles as well as plenty of Historical Museum experiences if desired.—

The name comes from an Ohlone Indian word meaning "the great body of water" and refers to its size- at 262 square miles (587 sq km). The lake was created by damming the river Rose Canyon which flows through the area.
