The mission was dedicated to Saint Josephine (the patron saint of agriculture). After years of construction and struggles with tropical weather conditions, San José was completed in 1853. It served as the country's largest friary until secular institutions began coming into being in California during the late 19th century. During World War II, some 830 Japanese Americans were interned at various locations within Orange County including Lake Elsinore; they were eventually released in 1945 following Japan's surrender. In 1957, Disneyland opened adjacent to Walt Disney Ranch; it would be another decades before other amusement parks followed suit throughout much of Southern California.—Lake Elsinore has been a popular tourist destination ever since.—Today part of Irvine County but still home to many people who call it their "home."
