Lake Forest is a city in Northern California, United States. The population was 28,711 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the San Francisco–Oakland–Hayward Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of 1,522,927. Lake Forest is located on the south bank of the San Francisco Bay and borders downtown Oakland to the east and Hayward to the west. The name "Lake Forest" was given to what is now downtown by early European explorers who named it after Joaquin Miller's farmstead on Milpitas Creek. In 1839 American Fur Company trader John C. Fremont named it for General James K. Polk's wife Emma Anna Woodruff (née Cleary) who had been born in Illinois but had moved with her family to California in 1828 and married Polk at Chico Cathedral. In 1846 several families from Livermore moved into what was then known as One Hundred Acres East of Market (now Lakeforest), including those of Isaac Babcock and his brother-in-law Augustus Hillyer; these were considered key players in developing what became Downtown Oakland today. By 1870 there were over 100 residents hereabouts; this included most of North Beach/Downtown Oakland as well as much of First Street between University Avenue and Franklin Street (north side). In 1893 water lines were extended from Marengo Valley to Lake Forest proper by means of an aqueduct under Market Street that joined up with Russian River just upstream from town center; this made possible further development northwestward along Interstate 80 through present day Elmira/Napa Valley before terminating near Stanford University southwest of town center just past Cloverdale Road leading out into Contra Costa County farmland beyond Marin County limits today. During World War II many factories located throughout Northern California produced goods for military service; among them were some within or adjacent to downtowns such as Kaiser Aluminum Works on Telegraph Hill outside Palo Alto, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Corporation on Menlo Park Boulevard north of Palo Alto, Bushnell Aircraft Corp., Western Electric Power Co., National Broadcasting System Inc., Hewlett-Packard Laboratories etc.; also nearby was Ford Motor Company’s Willow Run Plant manufacturing B-29 Superfortresses during WWII while other companies such as Alcoa built tanks and artillery pieces needed for Pacific Theater campaigns like Leyte Gulf etc.. The war brought about significant changes to both residential patterns within town limits (average home size decreased sharply) while also resulting in increased economic activity around military production facilities due their proximity to transportation hubs like Lakeshore Drive/Shaw Airport southeast corner where Highway 101 intersected Interstate 280 until recently leaving no contiguous area immediately contiguous with large commercial areas now Core City Center business district across I-280 from downtown Los Gatos Peninsula eastern edge near Rolling Hills Golf Course north end near Sonoma Raceway east side near IPFW research park & Visalia Hills Regional Library system all coming within easy reach via freeways yet remaining completely rural until well into recent decades annexed by neighboring townships or villages forming Today's core city center coreslope .

Lake Forest is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 26,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area and sits on a hill overlooking downtown Oakland. The city's name comes from two small lakes that encircle it—Lakeshore Lake and Valencia Lake. The larger body of water lies to the east and west of town while smaller Lakeshore and Valley Lakes lie to the north and south. The City was founded by Scotsmen in 1853 as a seasonal agricultural settlement on land that had been purchased from the East Bay Company for $1,000 per acre (0.40 km²). In 1856, when permanent settlement began, residents named their new city after their patron saint: St. Patrick (the Cathedral has been dedicated to him since 1865). In 1870, the City voted to become an incorporated village with a mayor and six-member board of directors responsible for all aspects of municipal life including street cleaning, lighting ordinances, zoning regulations etc., instead of just having one elected official for each household. The incorporation allowed for growth but also created some problems such as difficultachership because there were no proper boundaries between individual households; businesses could move anywhere they pleased without consequence. Mayor Wiser quickly solved this problem by creating streetscape districts which limited building heights within certain areas; he also developed a masterplan which outlined how future developments should be planned so as not to conflict with each other or disrupt normal citizens' lives
Lake Forest, California is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 33,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The first permanent inhabitants of what is now Lake Forest were Native Americans who lived on the Calaveras River and its tributaries for thousands of years. The first Europeans to arrive in the area were Spanish travelers in 1769 who named it "Las Piedras Negras" (the black rocks). In 1851, Henry Fenton bought land east of present-day Lake Forest and built a mill on the right bank of the Sacramento River near modern-day Oakland. The town was incorporated on December 12, 1852. In 1875, John Sutter founded Sutter's Mill just west of today's downtown Lake Forest after locating andclaiming land northeast of Hayward that he had purchased from José Joaquin Murillo for $3 million dollars. Today's downtown includes much of what was once Sutter's Mill property including his petrified tree nursery which still stands today. The opening of Japan Airlines' new international airport in Oakland in 1976 helped spur economic development around the lakefront area with businesses such as Boeing Co., KFC Corp., IBM Corporation and Safeway Incorporated moving into new buildings along Lakeshore Boulevard near International Blvd., northwest of downtown Oakland. In 1987, Pacific Bell merged with AT&T and created one large telephone company across seven regional divisions throughout Northern California which included parts of Berkeley Heights/Oakland Park/Fremont/Novato etcetera within easy walking or biking distance to their headquarters located adjacent to Interstate 580 in Emeryville
