In 1912, when annexation of Isla Vista became necessary by state law due to increased population growth within San Diego County, Lakewood became an official city too. In 1933, during World War II (the war's largest military mobilization), Camp Pendleton—an air-bases Internment camp located adjacent to some of Southern California's most rugged coastline—was established inresponse to allegations that Japanese Americans were engaging in espionage and sabotage inside California; Camp Pendleton would later play a major role in America's atomic bombing program. Many Japanese American citizens remaining after World War II settled here in what came to be known as "The Ghetto" because all infrastructure for housing and services had been destroyed or abandoned by then-American society following Japan's wartime occupation and displacement. At its peak around 1945 there were over 10,000 people living here primarily within walking distance of both downtown Lakewood and Camp Pendleton barracks; however only 2% of that figure reported formal residing status within any municipality outside their adopted hometowns after 1946 when they lost their legal right as US citizens subject only to military jurisdiction without civilian rights & protections." Lakewood, California is a small city in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. It is located on the west side of San Gabriel Mountains and has an population of about 86,000. The name Lakewood comes from two early Spanish settlers— Pedro Menendez and Juan José Castilla—who named it after a nearby lake. In 1960 when Riverside Drive extended its loop around downtown southward via Exposition Park before terminating at Flowery Branch Road (), much development took place along Exposition Blvd between Vinegar Hill Road () and La Brea Avenue ()) all within 2 miles radius of I-10 or freeways service but no immediate access thereto except for Highland Community College (). Today much smaller pockets continue scattered throughout Downtown Lakewood Borough while Exposition Park itself remains largely undeveloped with little commercial activity taking place within its boundaries apart from occasional open air concerts staged at various locations therein by popular local bands like "The Echo" ('70s rock band), "Hollywood Vampires" ('80s gothic rock band), "Descendents" ('00s rap group), etc.....
