The National Guard is a reserve force of the United States. It was organized on July 1, 1947, as part of the Department of Defense. The National Guard consists of all citizens over 25 years old who are not members of the military and have been called to duty for at least 30 days for any reason whatsoever. The National Guard can be used by the government to provide security during special events or times of peace or crisis. There are three main purposes for which the National Guard can be used: drill and parade grounds, emergency response forces, and national guard barracks. Drill and parade grounds can be used for teaching children about military discipline and how to march in formation; emergency response forces can be used in case an event occurs outside of normal police or fire services jurisdiction; and national guard barracks can be used as a temporary home away from home for troops stationed abroad. The responsibility for providing security falls primarily upon state and local governments, but there is also a federally funded program that provides security for federal buildings within their jurisdictions while they are being renovated or updated. In addition, member agencies of the US Customs Service may require their employees to wear uniforms in order to comply with applicable law enforcement regulations when performing official duties within the bounds of United States borders.
The Lakewood National Guard was organized on November 1, 1917. The organization was activated on January 1, 1918 and went through the activation process in May of that year. There were originally 119 units within the National Guard in California. The first unit to be activated in Lakewood was Company C of the 66th Infantry Regiment which arrived on October 3, 1918 from Livermore and disbanded on October 25 due to lack of volunteers. Company D also arrived in October and disbanded on November 2 due to lack of volunteers as well. On December 5, 1918 another unit, Company F of the 67th Infantry Regiment arrived from Stockton and disbanded on December 14 due to a lack of volunteer leaders. In early 1919 there were only 8 units left within the National Guard in California when it merged with other state guard forces under President Woodrow Wilson's Executive Order 9148 which called for all national guard troops serving abroad or quartered at home to be brought back into service without being discharged or furloughed. Most soldiers returned home by late 1919 but some did stay until 1920 when they were consolidated with other state guard forces again under Executive Order 9149 which allowed them to remain active indefinitely except for members who resigned or were discharged for cause such as absent without leave (AOW). Lakewood's first member company wasCompany H of the 38th Infantry Regiment which arrived on November 15, 1918 from Sacramento and disbanded two days later because there wasn't enough volunteers available. On December 12, 1918 another unit from Sacramento-the 21st Infantry Regiment-arrived but disbanding six days later because there weren't any volunteers available either. By February 1919 there had been no newunits added since 1917 so all 121 units within the National Guard had been depleted by war time attrition alone including companies A thru G which had both left to fight overseas while their replacements came back stateside; Companies K thru N which had withdrawn after being ordered by Wilson because they felt they couldn't hold out against a larger force; Company P who vacated their posts after General Pershing ordered them not join him during his campaign against Mexico; Squadrons A & B who withdrew voluntarily before mobilization began while Squadron C remained inactive until mobilization began; Airplanes squadron E & F who flew missions over enemy territory before mobilization began
Lakewood is a city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 397 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Joaquin Valley and sits on both sides of the Kern River. Lakewood was founded in 1872 by prospectors who named it for Lakewood Township, Ohio. In 1887, the community became an incorporated municipality with a population of around 100. The first post office opened in 1888 and was moved to its current location in 1903. In 1926, residents voted to change their name to Lakewood after they saw that other communities had changed their names as well. At first, local bankers objected because they felt their town's namesake would be less likely to generate business referrals than other towns with similarsounding names. However, the name stuck and has been used ever since. The city is home to two high schools – Edison High School and Westlake High School – as well as two elementary schools – Loretto Elementary School and North Hollywood Elementary School; all three are located within walking distance of one another (though not within each other's districts). There are also several small businesses surrounding the downtown core that provide services such as plumbing, sheetmetal work, restaurant management, cleaning supplies and more. The city’s downtown district is home to many restaurants including Pabst Brewing Company which opened in 1922-23 adjacent to nearby Loretto Elementary school; Baja Fresh Mexican Grill which opened in 1998 on Eighth Street near Katella Avenue; Big Dog BBQ & Steakhouse which opened in 2006 on Ninth Street between Groyer Boulevard and State Route 395; as well as several large stores including Sears/Kmart on Groyer Boulevard east of Sixth Street (opened 1974) along with dozens of smaller retailers across several blocks east of Seventh Street south of I-5 exit 131A (opened 1984). Additionally there are four hotels located within walking distance: Embassy Suites by Hilton - just north of Seventh Street south of I-5 exit 131A next door to Katella Casino; Renaissance Place by Marriott - east side off Interstate 5 Exit 4 between SeventhStreet southof I-5 exit 131A & Katella Casino; Best Western Plus - opposite corner off Interstate 5 Exit 4 just northof SeventhStreet southof I-5exit 131A ; & Cozy Corner Inn - northeast corner off Interstate 5 Exit 4 between SeventhStreet southof I-5exit131A
The history of the National Guard is one that dates back to the Revolutionary War. The Militia Act of 1792 created a national guard system in the United States, which would remain in place until 1825. One of the first occasions that these units were used was during the Battle of Bunker Hill. When British forces attacked, most of America’s militia deserted and took flight, leaving their cannons and ammunition behind. A small force made up of militiamen from New York City stayed to fight, but were forced to retreat when reinforcements arrived. This event is often cited as being one of the largest battles in American history. Since its inception, the National Guard has been used for a variety of purposes including defense, education, and disaster relief. In 1827, President James K. Polk established a military department within the Department of War to organize and arm state militias with federal support for emergency operations such as railroads and law enforcement. This department was later renamed The National Guard Bureau in 1885. Throughout its history, the National Guard has had a number of different commanders who have led it into battle. Some examples include General James Wilkinson during World War II; Admiral Chester Nimitz during Pacific Theater engagements; General George Smedley Butler during both world wars; Lieutenant Colonel John Witherspoon during Desert Storm; and Major General Rick Atkinson during Operation Neptune’s Spear。 Today, there are over 100 thousand members active in the National Guard across America performing various tasks including guarding our borders, providing security at events such as sporting events or concerts, providing support for local communities through training programs and deployments overseas., serving on numerous task forces throughout our country.,and more.?

Lakewood is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 33,605 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Lakewood was James Wittell who arrived in 1847. He and his family built a log cabin on the east side of town now known as the Wittell House. In 1853, Wittell married Rachelle Cranch and they started a grocery store on Fourth Street. The couple also raised chickens and pigs and ran an ice cream business downtown until their death in 1903. Their daughter Mildred founded Mrs. Kapp's Kitten Shop in 1906 which operated until 1978 when it closed its doors for good. In 1909, Mayor Edward Mays dedicated a park named after him located between Second Avenue and Third Street north of Interstate 5- exit 12A (now called Tulare Avenue). This park included baseball diamonds, soccer fields, playgrounds and a swimming pool that remain today as part of Lakewood Recreation District #5-C . In 1920 Mayor John Fenton renamed Fifth Street from Tulare Avenue to Main Street in honor of General John J. Pershing who had played an important role during World War I . In 1933 the City Council voted to annex neighboring Commerce Township creating what is now known as Downtown Lakewood . On December 3rd 1933 President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9982 ordering all agencies within the U.S government to consolidate into one large organization known as "the Federal government". This order created chaos throughout America with many small municipalities trying to merge into larger ones without authorization from higher up sources while Lakewood languished behind schedule . After years of wrangling by both sides only two blocks south of Fifth Street were annexed into the city on April 2nd 1937 becoming what is today Polk Place Marketplace
