They relocated to Lakewood in 1992 and opened the first ever coffee shop in the city. The Lakewood Coffee Roasters continue to serve high-quality coffee to customers throughout Central California. Lakewood is a small town in the San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles County, California. The population was 25,725 at the 2010 census. It is part of the GreaterLos Angeles Area and is located on a bend in Isabella Creek. The first people to live in what is now Lakewood were the Tongva peoples who lived along the creek from southeast LA to Mission Viejo. The Tongva built several villages around Lakewood before they were pushed out by the Spanish in 1643. In 1872, prospectors discovered oil under water near present-day Union City and named it after their discovery site, "Union Springs." By 1898, drilling had resumed and production began full time; oil soon became Fort Worth's major source of revenue. In 1902, General Electric bought Union Springs for $30 million; GE built its corporate headquarters there until it sold it to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) in 2006. Lakewood was incorporated as a city on November 2, 1907. PG&E bought Union Springs from GE for $5 million on October 26, 1911; that same year sawPUDCO become one of Southern California's original municipals when Los Angeles County was divided into single county divisions that year among newly organized state governments pursuant to Proposition 8 (the codification of previous federal land usage laws). In 1922–23 PG&E installed an electric light plant at Deer Park Road and Deer Park Boulevard which replaced an earlier gas plant that had been destroyed by fire three years earlier. The new plant generated enough electricity to serve more than 350 homes; also during this period PG&E began purchasing neighboring properties which would be used for future infrastructure expansion as well as developing them into parkland/open space including portions of Whittier and Pomona Streets today known as Western Avenue Neighborhoods east of Interstate 10 outside downtown LA In 1926–27 construction commenced on the first addition to PG&E's main campus: its Polytechnic School Building designed by architects George Washington Smith and Harry Broun with funding provided by Westinghouse Electric Company president Frederic William Handy Jr.; this large building served as both school’s administration building—containing 12 classrooms/ao., four laboratories/ao., one theater/ao., two gymnasiums (the third largest gymnasium in America at that time), office space for teachers and staff plus administrative offices for central office services such as finance, information technology, marketing research etc.—and home economics school buildings comprising forty-six classrooms/ao., six laboratories/ao., two theaters/ao., one sports hall with a regulation basketball court—later renamed Polytechnic High School —administered by separate female faculties maintained within existing male academic departments . Finally sixteen acres adjacent to Pasadena Street between Western Avenue Neighborhoods east of Interstate 10 outside downtown LA were purchased from James Kellar Waddell heirs after his death in 1928 through arrangement made with then-City Manager John Ahern . For many years thereafter these lands served primarily as open space surrounding our city limits rather than being developed further into parcels like much adjacent property currently does . Today only 5% or less of this original land remains within our city limits while significantly more developing territory surrounds it within current boundaries . These days we can still see evidence left behind throughout history such as Pioneer Cabin located off Center Drive just southwest of Main Street #2 ; Cliffs Natural Preserve located northwest off State Route 87 across Rodeo Drive inside annexation boundary line ; Antioch Baptist Church located southeast off Olympic Boulevard inside annexation boundary line ; Eufaula Casino situated northeast off I-10 just southwest of Downtown LA serving eastern Orange County area also annexed along with Riverside County area annexing shortly thereafter
