The Lancaster Air Force Base Strategic Reserve Museum is home to the world’s largest air force deployed gift history collection. The museum’s exhibits include more than 1,000 items from military and civilian partners in more than 25 countries. The museum began collecting air force deployed gifts in the early 1970s when then-Lt. Col. Rick Higginbotham of the 37th Aerospace Wing decided to start a gift history collection at his wing’s disposal after retiring from the service following 27 years of flying combat missions over Southeast Asia. Higginbotham was succeeded as Lt. Col. by Maj.- Gen. John Hargrave, who served as commander of RAF Valley for 13 years before being named commander of RAF Lakenheath in October 1997. Under Hargrave’s leadership, the museum shifted its focus from commemoration to research and development for new arms and technology that could be used by coalition partner nations in their war efforts on behalf of NATO and other international organizations such as United Nations peacekeeping forces or counterinsurgency operations against militant groups such as Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan and Iraq. In February 2006, Lt.- Gen.(Ret.) David Jumper became Commanding General (CGN) of RAF Lakenheath with responsibility for all aspects of strategic reserve activities at RAF Lakenheath and its subordinate commands across England and Scotland including RAF Valley, which was renamed USAF/USAF Consolidated Field Army Headquarters (Fahrenheit) upon its merger with USAAF Wright-Patterson AFB's 419th Security Forces Squadron on July 1, 2006 effective until March 31st 2009 when it was transferred back under CGN Jumper's command to become an element within USAF/USAF Regional Command Southwest Pacific (PACOM) - an organization subordinate only to USAF/USAF Commander Europe headquartered at Ramstein AB, Germany responsible for all aspects of military aerospace activity outside European airspace within NATO boundaries - making Lancaster one of three major operational units within PACOM responsible for worldwide air warfare capabilities located close to commercial airports globally - providing theater commanders with real-time situational awareness images & video footage available 24/7 worldwide 7 days a week - allowing them direct control over every aspectof global military aviation activity

The Lancaster Air National Guard's (LANC) 489th Airlift Squadron is responsible for providing airlift to the San Francisco Bay Area and surrounding communities. In 2007, the squadron received a gift from the United States Air Force in the form of an Airbus A330-200 airplane. The plane was donated to the squadron by Harris Corporation and has been used for numerous community events, such as transporting troops and civilians to military exercises, disaster relief missions, and more.

It is located on the central coast of California, about south of San Francisco and east of Los Angeles. The area that would become Lancaster was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s. In 1851, it became part of Mexico City and then Mexico before becoming part of United States in 1848. The town was founded on July 4th, 1851 by Capt. John Steedman and his wife Mary Lederer as a staging post for an unsuccessful attempt to explore what would become Oregon Territory. In 1861, Lancaster became one of the original cities in California when it was incorporated as a city under the name "Lancaster". The city experienced growth during the American Civil War with its proximity to military bases such as Fort Point (now Treasure Island) and Shipyard Point (now Seal Beach). During World War II, Lancaster played an important role in providing essential supplies to soldiers stationed abroad and also produced some notable citizens including astronaut Neil Armstrong and US Senator Barbara Boxer. After World War II ended, Lancaster experienced modest growth until its heyday during the 1960s when it reached its current size.
