The Lancaster Air Force Base was founded on December 16, 1942 by United StatesAAF Command. The base was the first in the United States to be built specifically for the purpose of providing aerial warfare training and support to fighter pilots. It served as an operational center for American forces in World War II until it was closed on September 2, 1993. Aircraft from the base played a major role in numerous campaigns during World War II, including the Battle of Midway, which resulted in Japan's surrender; Operation Neptune's Spear, which destroyed strategic targets in Burma; and Typhoon over North Korea, which caused great damage and killed up to 200 Korean civilians. The airbase also supported operations against Vietcong militants during the Vietnam War. Lancaster AFB is home to two squadrons of Boeing 707 jet aircraft used for bomber strikes and combat missions over southern Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom; these planes were retired from service on June 1, 2009. Today, Lancaster AFB provides training space for more than 20 military and civilian organizations who use its facilities to teach various militaries how to fight terrorism and other threats around the world.

Lancaster is a small city in the Central Valley of California, located about an hour's drive from Sacramento. The population was 14,198 as of the 2000 census. Lancaster is part of the Fresno-Madera, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a cattle station on Rancho San Miguel de los Cahuengas in 1849 and quickly grew into a prosperous agricultural community with a thriving cotton industry. By 1910, Lancaster had become one of the most important center points in southern California due to its location on Interstate 5 and its easy access to labor markets in both rural areas and coastal cities. Today, Lancaster remains an agriculturally based community with several manufacturing businesses - including two major textiles companies - providing local jobs for hundreds of people. Lancaster's history is intimately intertwined with that of its neighboring city, Fresno. Together they formed what was once known as the "Gateway City" due to their close proximity to each other and their shared histories as agricultural communities and industrial centers. In recent years, however, Lancaster has begun to emerge as a key cultural leader within the Fresno-Madera metropolitan area - hosting nationally respected festivals such as Folsom Street Fair and Poppy Festival every year (the latter being particularly notable for its art exhibits), as well as becoming home to numerous high-profile artists and musicians throughout the year.

Lancaster, California is a small town in Inyo County, California. It was platted in 1867 and has been the seat of Lancaster County since 1876. The population was 3,826 at the 2010 census. Lancaster is located on the eastern edge of Mojave National Preserve. The first people to live in what is now Lancaster were the Hahns. They came from Ohio in 1827 and built a cabin on the south side of the Big Creek near present-day North Pole Road. sheep were herded there until 1850 when they switched to cattleraising, which became more important because of easy access to water resources. By 1870, there were over 100 citizens in Lancaster and twelve businesses managed by men or women including four banks, three sawmills and two hotels. In 1876, a group of businessmen formed the American Contractors Association (ACA) to promote quality construction materials for local communities across America. The town's first building was a store that served as an office for ACA members until 1906 when it burned down; however, this did not discourage business growth as new stores were built soon after that including one serving as a movie theater from 1925-1935 Some events that helped shape Lancaster’s history include: 1) The incorporation of Inyo County on February 14th 1861 by proclamation from President Abraham Lincoln 2) The opening of Mammoth Lakes Lumber Company mill on November 10th 1901 which began production of lumber for buildings in Los Angeles 3) After World War II ended with Victory Over Japan Day on September 2nd 1945, many Japanese Americans who had been living in Lancaster went into hiding under assumed names like John Doe or Jane Roe
Lancaster was founded in 1847 by Captain James Lancaster and his family. The town was named after General George Armstrong Custer, who was killed in a battle near Lancaster in 1876. In 1952, the town of Lancaster became part of the new city of San Jose.
