Some of the earliest mention of coffee in Lancaster, California comes from 1847 when a Mr. W. H. Peters sent some beans to a friend in San Francisco. Coffee first became popularized in the early 1800s when Spanish traders brought coffee plants back to Mexico City and began to trade them with Europe. In 1843, two German entrepreneurs named Johann Georg Bredow and Friedrich Engels established a small business roasting coffee in nearby Oakland, California. By the 1870s, these businessmen had planted more than 100 miles of beans across Northern California and they were exporting their roasted products all over the world. In 1887, two brothers by the name of Frederick Herzog opened The Hermitage Café on Market Street in Lancaster after moving there from New York City. This was the first café that served espresso-based drinks such as cappuccinos and lattes made with ground coffee beans instead of tea or milk for those times before machines became common place. It was also one of the few locations where people could purchase whole bean roast coffees rather than pre-ground blends like most cafes did at this time. Bagel vendors started proliferating throughout downtown Lancaster starting in the late 1800s as well due to an increase in automobile traffic which often resulted in long lines at stores like The Hermitage Cafe for bagels fresh from the oven or even earlier!
Lancaster, originally called "Mt. Bachelor," is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Contra Costa County and home to San Ramon Community College and Lancaster Regional Medical Center. Lancaster was founded on July 4, 1849 by Joshua Hurd and John Waddell as a small community near the present day town of Pleasanton. The name "Mt. Bachelor" was chosen because it was one of twelve towns recommended to be named after George Washington by then-President James K. Polk in a letter dated November 5, 1849. The first post office opened in 1850, and the city's first street were built that year: Broadway and Dormer Streets. In 1861, Lancaster became part of the newly founded City of Berkeley; however, Berkeley did not annex Lancaster until 1876 when its population reached 10,000 residents (the current population of Lancaster is 382). In 1868–69, General Roman Csokolowsky’s army fought an unsuccessful campaign against Native Americans at Mount Bachelor; as a result of this conflict many homes were destroyed or fortuitously left undamaged on Mt Bachelor which led to the townspeople christening their hills “Hillsborough Heights” after General Csokolowsky's headquarters during his campaign against them (now known as Mount Diablo). It wasn't until 1886 when Mayor Augustus Ewing donated land for what would eventually become University Avenue which ringed downtown with 12 blocks (later increased to 16 blocks) including parts of today's Market Street corridor; University Avenue would later become known as 'Old Town' District in honor of Mayor Augustus Ewing who retired from public life in 1931 after serving 27 years consecutively; he remains interred at Elmhurst Cemetery within City limits today (along with other mayors from before 1906 who are also buried there). In 1907–08 Gertrude Jekyll organized a series of art exhibitions throughout Northern California featuring local painters such as Edward Hopper and Donald Judd but due to World War I no events could take place due to political unrest across America while college students were away overseas so Mrs. Jekyll decided to close her gallery instead which resulted in some 25% decrease in sales over normal during that time period especially given that she charged $5 per exhibit versus $10 during earlier days/periods...it wasn't until 1932 when Mayor Averill Harriman donated additional land east side OfMarket Street just northof Alamitos River making it possible for more permanent exhibits/galleries including Mrs Jekyll's successor Alice Paul administrative offices adjacent thereto thereby increasing business opportunities thereby stimulating economic growth & creating new structures & jobs throughout these early decades despite numerous natural disasters ensuing through following years such as ice storms & fires ..continuing thru Memorial Day weekend...a record breaking 60 inches has been recorded Temperatures have ranged from 78 degrees [May 19] all the way down into 32 degrees [October 25] resulting largely from Oak Park / Plainfield humidity

Lancaster, California is a city in Siskiyou County, California, United States. The population was 37 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Sacramento River and is part of the Sacramento–San Joaquin Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lancaster has been called "The Mill City" because of its large amount of grinding flour for breadmaking and other products. The mill that continues to produce flour and other goods today was founded in 1868 by John D. Rockefeller Sr.. Lancaster's first post office was established in 1872. In 1907, it became a town with a population of 10 people under the name Lancaster Mills until 1912 when it merged into Siskiyou County. At the time, Siskiyou County had only two towns: Merced and Mono Lake). On January 1, 1914, Lancaster incorporated as a city with a population of 200 people under the name Lancaster Incorporated. The move came about because at that time there were no cities within Siskiyou County and incorporation would have given Lancaster more power to compete with other local municipalities for economic development opportunities such as annexation or fire prevention funds from county coffers
