Lancaster is a town in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 10,563 at the 2010 census. Lancaster was founded in 1851 by George W. Lancaster and his wife Sarah Damerell as an agricultural community on the banks of the Merced River. In 1876, Lancaster became the county seat of San Joaquin County after its creation from portions of Contra Costa and Kern counties. The first post office in Lancaster opened on December 12, 1851, under the name of Eastville. The current post office building was built in 1916 and dedicated by Mayor Harry Fenton. In 1881, General Joseph Hooker's army passed through Lancaster during their march from Sacramento to Stockton; some soldiers stopped at the town for dinner before continuing their journey northward. At that time there were only six houses in Lancaster with a population of about forty people. In 1909, local entrepreneurs organized a new city government for Lancaster which would include housing for citizens and businesses along with Streets and Roads Commission jurisdiction over public works projects such as sidewalks, streetlights, water supply systems and other infrastructure needs necessary for growth. On April 15th of that year voters passed a resolution requesting that the City Council establish an economic development arm to develop business opportunities within Lancaster while also creating more opportunities for youth employment within local organizations like YouthBuilders Incorporated (YBI). In 1969-1970 YBI created two industrial parks: Silicon Valley Park near downtown Lancaster and Redwood Valley Park located just outside of town on Interstate 5 highway exit 121 southbound off ramp onto I-680 near Donner Pass National Recreation Area. These developments helped to spur much needed job growth throughout both towns during these years as well as contribute to overall revitalization efforts taking place around town since then including increasing use/accessibility of public transportation options including bike rides/walks accessible from most areas within town limits

Armstrong as an agricultural community on the San Joaquin River between Bakersfield and Merced. In 1861, it became part of the newly created Kern County; within its first decade, Lancaster had a population of 20 residents. By 1870, Lancaster had a population of 150 residents and by 1880 it had reached 350 residents. The city's growth continued through the years with successive annexations from other counties until it reached its current size in 1925 when it annexed Union City.
