He started selling coffee beans from his farm and began buying land around Lancaster so he could grow coffee himself. By 1912, Janse had bought an entire valley between the rivers San Gabriel and Monongahela. His beans were now known as Janse's Fine Coffee. The first Starbucks opened its doors in Seattle in 1998, but it wasn't until 2003 that we found out about Lancaster's rich coffee history. That year, Joe Biden visited the town for a fundraiser and was impressed by the café's wood-fired ovens and delicious cup of joe. The early days of tactical coffee were in Lancaster, California. There was a small store on Main Street that sold coffee from a small pot. The first Tactical Coffee was opened in 1978 by two veterans of the US Marine Corps who had studied military strategy and tactics at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. They started out with one bag of coffee per day for their soldiers stationed overseas. In 1984, the company moved to its current location in Lancaster, California and began to sell more than just coffee. They also began selling tea and hot chocolate products. In 1990 they introduced their first espresso machine and continued to make changes until they retired their last espresso machines in 2002.

The first Europeans to explore what is now Lancaster were Spanish traders and missionaries who came through this area during the 17th century. In 1915–1916, Japanese American citizens of Eastern Japan moved into town following World War II when General Motors began manufacturing plants outside of North America for war production purposes. After years of protests by local Native Americans over water rights near their reservation lands within town limits—and eventually leading to passage of laws amending those rights—the U.S.–Japan Cooperative Agreement granted them eminent domain and developed their holdings into an urban park named Hastings Park today (). In 1949–1950 two towns – Amador Township (north) and Orinda (south) – merged into Lancaster due to political subdivisions changes mandated by then-Governor Ronald Reagan's Interstate Highway Act which limited county growth potential along I-5 corridors bordering Contra Costa County while giving away large parcels east of I-5 for development including much of downtown Lancaster which became "The District". Lancaster has since seen rapid growth with more than doubling its population between 2000 and 2010 - reaching 25,823 people as of 2014 according to the US Census Bureau - making it one of the fastest growing cities in California. The City has emerged as a major economic engine driving job growth throughout central Contra Costa County while also becoming increasingly diverse through both inward migration from other nearby cities (such as San Francisco), outward migration from other parts of Northern California (includingOakland), and natural increase (+2% per year). Lancaster, California is a small city in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 5,748 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Joaquin Valley metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Lancaster was Martin Capps in 1851. Other early settlers included Lewis and Charles Goodspeed who arrived from England in 1852; Daniel Drake who landed on December 10th, 1855; John Fenton who signed the Declaration of Independence on May 6th, 1860; and George Waddell and his family who came to Lancaster on October 12th, 1861. On January 11st 1870 Captain Samuel Moulton sailed into Lancaster Bay with his schooner HMS Beagle bound for Victoria (now Bakersfield) with news of goldfields near Sutter's Mill. He discovered a large vein of gold at an elevation of over 500 feet (150 m). Captain Moulton named the new settlement after himself - "Lancaster" becoming one of US history's most notable namingakes. In 1875 when American Midland Railway built its line between Sacramento and Bakersfield through Lancaster it became an important stop for travelers en route to central California. The railroad opened up more land for farming and development including much of what is now downtown Lancaster today as well as parts of what are now Kern County and Triskelion Township... In 1907 there were 8 businesses in town - all but one closed by 1930 due to enterprising farmers abandoning easy agricultural irrigation canals during the Great Depression that followed...
