The USAF operates more than 120,000 aircraft and employs more than 310,000 people. The USAF is the largest air force in the world and one of the most versatile. It is a major player in global warfare and has been involved in all types of conflict since World War II. The USAF was formed on August 4th 1947 as part of the United States Air Force (USAF). It was initially called the Continental Air Forces (CAF). The CAF was created to provide air support for land operations during World War II. Inactivated on November 1st 1945, it re-emerged as the USAF on August 4th 1947. The USAF became operational through its various branches – Strategic Air Command (SAC), Tactical Air Command (TAC), and Special Operations Command (SOC) – each with their own designated areas of responsibility. Larkspur is a farming town in Kern County, California, United States. Larkspur is located on the banks of the Kern River. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. The first human settlers in Larkspur were prospectors who traveled to nearby Mono Lake in 1849 and 1850 to find copper and other minerals. In 1859, a group of Mormons from Salt Lake City built a log cabin on the riverbank near present-day Larkspur. They named their settlement after their source of funding: Lark's spruce tree in Utah had given them some financial support while they were exploring that state for mines. Larkspur's early years were difficult because it was not easy to get water or goods needed for farming through the wide open area around it. However, over time, with addition of irrigation systems and better transportation options, Larkspur began to thrive as an agricultural center. Today, many businesses and residents operate within the narrow confines of downtown ( which straddles both banks of the Kern River) – making it one of the most vibrant small towns in southern California.
