Today, most residents are descendants of those original farmers who came to Larkspur during the early 20th century. The town has a variety of industries including cheese production, pasta manufacturing, and lumber processing. There are also several small businesses in the town that provide services such as retail sales and food delivery. The local school system provides education for children grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Larkspur is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. Its ZIP code is 93634. Larkspur is located on the southern fringe of the San Joaquin Valley and its elevation is about 1,500 feet (370 m). The first permanent settler in Larkspur was Nicholas Fenton who came to the area in 1851. A post office called Larkspur was established in 1855, and remained in operation until 1912. In 1886, a mill was built here by Elisha Teague and named Teague & Sons Mill. The mill closed around 1915-16 because of low demand for flour from local farmers. In 1892 John Sutter bought land southwest of town and began developing it into Rancho San Joaquin which included much of what is now Larkspur. In 1906 he sold most of his ranch to George Hearst for $5 million dollars ($ when measured against today's prices). From then until 1938 there were only 10 families living in Larkspur - all but two since 1906! Of these ten families one family disappeared during World War II due to relocation to Oakland or other areas within California; however seven have repatriated back to Larkspur since that time thanks to various programs including Family Reunification International (FRI) Larkspur has always been an agricultural community with annual produce sales totaling over $100,000 Larkspur also became home to some famous people such as Harry Bridges who owned a sawmill hereabouts and became well known for his custom-made guitars

In 1916, the United States Post Office moved to Larkspur from San Francisco after the City of San Francisco refused to allow it to be built on their public square.
