Larkspur is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Larkspur's name comes from the plant larkspur flower. Larkspur is one of Kern County's two villages and it is located on State Route 99 between Diamond Bar and Bakersfield. Larkspur was founded in 1875 by John A. MacDonald as a trading post on the White River near what is now Del Norte County, California. In 1907, Larkspur became an incorporated municipality with a landowning white majority under the leadership of Mayor Simeon Davenport and Post Master General Wm Haddon Beechman. At that time, Larkspur had one school -graded fourth- through eighth grade -and five general stores including two banks which were both Union Stockyards until they closed in 1941 due to World War II production disruptions; only three buildings still remain from those days: One building now houses the Old Town Hall Museum (opened in 1978), while another has been converted into apartments; and the third has been demolished for housing development purposes but remains standing as part of the town center redevelopment project currently being completed by Pacheco Development Company LLC In 1951, Larkspur annexed its neighboring community of Diamond Bar The first post office opened at Larkspur on July 14th of that year On December 12th 1954 more than 2200 people attended an event organized by civic leaders to commemorate 150 years since Rancho San Bernardino de la Alameda had granted deed restrictions prohibiting sale or lease of water rights to any person other than Mexican nationals On January 9th 1956 residents voted to become an independent city with their own government with Mayor Cesar Chavez serving as mayor pro tempore

Larkspur is a small city in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. Larkspur has been granted city status by the California state government. The first Europeans to visit what is now Larkspur were Mormon missionaries led by Father George Armijo in 1849. In 1854 a group of settlers from New Mexico arrived and named it "Lark Springs." A post office was established at Larkspur on February 14, 1857, and the town began to grow rapidly. In 1860 construction began on the San Francisco and Sacramento Railroad through Inyo County and Larkspur was chosen as the terminus of the line. The town started to prosper as businesses opened up along the railroad. By 1870 Larkspur had become an important trading center for agricultural goods from Northern California and Nevada. During World War II Larksburg served as one of five staging points for supplies entering Japan via Humboldt Bay Bridge. During that time many people including residents of nearby Redding worked long hours at shipyards in southern California to build Marine Corps airfields such as Misawa Airfield which became operational in 1942-1943 during World War II . After World War II ended there were few jobs available for Californians so many moved out into other states or outside of America altogether creating a large new resident population in what is now known as East Los Angeles which includes parts of downtown Larksburg
Larkspur was founded by John White in 1849. The town was named for the flower, larkspur, which is a type of daisy. White's farm grew opium poppy and other crops, and Larkspur became a center for opium trade. In 1853, California statehood was granted to the United States, and Larkspur became part of California.
