Artisan Coffee History in Lathrop, California: There is no one answer to the question of where coffee began. Many theories abound, but it is generally agreed that coffee first originated in what is now Lathrop, California. The area was home to a large population of Native Americans and early European settlers who interacted with each other and grows crops such as beans. Here he started selling ground coffee that he roasted himself. Waugh's store acted as a hub for different farmers in the area who would share their beans with him for sale or trade purposes. Over time, more and more businesses cropped up throughout Lathrop; this included several breweries which brewed their own coffees and sold them directly to consumers. By 1870-1871, there were six cafes operating in town; all serving different types of coffee drinks including espresso and tea bags (or milk). The town was founded in 1854 by William Lathrop and his wife, Lucy Addams. It became a city in 1959 and was placed within Kern County. On January 1, 2018, Lathrop merged with neighboring towns of West Valley City and Diamond Bar to form the new City of Diamond Bar. The Town of Lathrop was founded on October 16, 1854 by William Lathrop and his wife Lucy Addams following their return from an extended trip through Oregon and Nevada. They arrived at the site that would become Lathrop after traveling northeast along what is now Tuolumne River valley. Upon their arrival, they erected a log cabin known as "The White House" which served as their home for several years until they could find enough land to purchase. In 1856, John Sutter discovered gold near present-day Wintersville while exploring what would become Kern County; this led to Gold Rush activity in the area which soon prompted many people to come downriver to search for veins of gold. In 1861, when railroad construction began upriver from Sacramento,, much attention was focused on the potential for minerals being found in the area including coalmining operations which soon followed westward into Kern County. In 1865 local doctor Elisha Gray purchased 640 acres (2 km²) north of present day Lathrop from Pahrump rancher Jesse Barnes for $1 per acre (). With this land purchase came control over much of eastern Kern County including present day Lathrop proper with only a few scattered farmsteads remaining today).
