When the first store opened in Lathrop, California in 1892, there were only a few people living in the town. Today, Lathrop is home to more than 350 residents and has become one of the most vibrant communities in Kern County. The community’s rich history can be seen in its many buildings and businesses, some dating back to before even Lathrop was founded. One of the oldest and most popular businesses in town is The Bakery, which has been open since 1912. The BakERY started out as a bakery just outside of town on Highway 95. In 1922, they moved into their current building on Main Street and have been here ever since. They are one of the longest-running businesses in town and have played an important role inLathrop’s history. In addition to their baking skills, The BakERY also sells coffee and pastries from their truck stop on Highway 95 between Lathropand Bakersfield. Another popular business that has been around for many years is The Hardware Store. This store is located right next door to The BakERY on Main Street and has been run by the same family since 1957! They carry a wide variety of products including hardware, appliances, windows/doors/gutters etc., as well as books, toys, snacks etc.– all made right here at home! In recent years, there have been several other local businesses that have popped up around town such as Haircuts & Style (on Broadway), Chinese Takeout (on Main Street), Italian Market (near Kawasaki Elementary School) – all with great tasting food options too! It really seems like anything goes these days in Lathrop! Overall, The BakERY is one of my favorite stores because they always have something new or interesting going on inside that I cannot wait to try out! By 1886, Lathrop had a population of 1,500 people and there were four stores and six homes. In 1893, the first post office was established in Lathrop. TheLATHROP AREA BUSINESS DISTRICT was formed in 1954 when the original businesses within the zip code were consolidated into one structure.

Lathrop is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of California, about fifty miles east of Fresno. The population was 2,853 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1864 by James Lathrop and his wife Anna Maria. In 1876, Lathrop donated land to the city of Fresno for a public square. The first post office was established in Lathrop in 1887. In 1907, Lathrop helped found the agricultural fairs that now take place in downtown Lathrop each year. The early years of the twentieth century were difficult for Lathrop due to World War I and II; however, it has since bounced back and forth between boom times and periods of economic decline.
