Lemon Grove is a small town in the Inland Empire of California, located about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. It was settled by Mormon pioneers in 1847 and became a part of the City of LA on January 1, 1899. The first military unit to arrive in Lemon Grove was the 9th Infantry Battalion (Mormon) which arrived on October 9, 1849. They were followed by 3rd Cavalry Regiment (Anglo-Saxon) on December 12, 1849. The 11th Infantry Battalion (Mexican American) arrived on February 17, 1850 and the 13th Infantry Battalion (Italian American) arrived on March 15, 1850. On July 5, 1861, the 2nd California Volunteer Infantry Regiment was organized at Lemon Grove and its officers included Captain John Gillett who would become Commandant of San Diego Barracks later that year. The regiment served until it was disbanded on September 26, 1861 due to lack of troops and equipment. In 1865 United States Marines were stationed at Lemon Grove as part of General Order No. 104 while troops were being mobilized for service in Southern California during the Mexican-American War. On November 1st Marines landed at Lemuel Island west of Lemon Grove and began their occupation while construction began upon Fort Point on nearby Angel Island to house Marine Corps forces ashore when hostilities ended less than one month later without any blood spilled between US/Mexican forces or civilians

In 1863, the army moved to Fort Myer in Arlington Heights, Virginia and then to Leavenworth Barracks in Kansas City, Missouri. The town was founded in 1866 by John A. Lemon and his wife Emma as a summer home for themselves and their children. Lemon Grove grew slowly until it had a population of 472 in 1915 when it annexed part of neighboring Cajon Valley. In 1960, Lemon Grove became an unincorporated community after its annexation into San Bernardino County. Lemon Grove has several businesses that contribute to its economy including two banks, three restaurants, two grocery stores, two service stations and one nursery/homeschooling center. The lemon grove also hosts an annual lemon festival which features food from local restaurants as well as music from local bands throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday

It is located on the east side of Santa Clara County and bordered by Palo Alto to the north, Menlo Park to the east, Stanford University to the south, and San Ramon Creek to the west. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. The history of Lemon Grove dates back to 1853 when José Maria Sánchez de la Torre donated land for a post office in what is now Lemon Grove. The first postmaster was James Hickey. In 1857, two brothers named Ayer were granted 1-acre (0.48 km2) of land near present-day Lemon Grove for their farm house. They named their tract "Ayer Rancho". That same year citrus trees were planted thereabouts by George Hargrave and Jens Jensen Knausgaard from Denmark with funds provided by Sánchez de la Torre. In 1870,"Eagle" magazine reported that lemon orchardists numbered about 25 owners in Santa Clara County; four of these operated within five miles of its center—Sanchez de la Torre’s rancho being nearest thereto."Palo Alto", then part of San Francisco Bay Area, had been annexed intoSANTA CLARA COUNTY in 1851 and gangrene killed manymllemon trees due to lack of fresh water (now known as irrigation). By 1875 most all souring lemons had been removed from concentrate crops grown along San Francisco Bay Bridge so there would be less contact with other elements that could cause spoilage/rotation or even death as happened during earlier times when wild limes grew nearby."Mountain View", much larger city which surrounded SANTA CLARA COUNTY on three sides until it was annexed into Silicon Valley in 1951 also contributed some acreage towards development around what are now West Menlo Park Avenue & Weisman Street - this area became home to Google's headquarters after its incorporation date."Onion Lake", another name given at one time for what are now South Pasadena Boulevard & North Glassell Road -Much smaller community than today's Lemon Grove developed hereabouts including several schools early 1900s including Girdwood School which housed students from Bellevue School District
