The Chamber of Commerce Coffee Club provided a unique opportunity for citizens of lemon groves to come together and discuss issues important to the community. This club also promoted coffee culture by teaching people about the art of coffee brewing. The first professional roaster in Lemon Grove was Harry Janssen in 1961. Harry Janssen became interested in Roasting Beans & Casing when he discovered that this process allowed him to achieve higher-quality coffee than he could have achieved with his home-roasted beans. In 1970, Don Tighe founded Don Tighe's Beanery which is now one of the most well-known artisan roasters in Orange County. Don Tighe strove hard to create unique flavor profiles for his beans while still honoring classic barista techniques such as grinding, pressing, and tamping. He also believed that quality should not be compromised because it was his livelihood that depended on it. In 1984, Don Tighe passed away but his legacy will live on through his beans which are currently available from many different retailers throughout Southern California including San Francisco Bay Area stores like Lenox Hill)

Lemon Grove is a small town in Riverside County, California, United States. It was settled by European Americans in the mid-19th century and became one of the most prominent citrus towns in Northern California. The first coffeehouses were established in Lemon Grove in 1868, and the town's first commercial grocery may have been opened in 1870. The first Spanish-speaking settlers arrived to Lemon Grove around 1775 and there are still some Hispanic residents today. In 1868, two American businessmen named John Cuningham and George A. Smith set up a store on what is now Main Street called The Coffee House, which served as a meeting place for lemon growers and other early citrus farmers. In 1872, local resident Lorenzo Dow began selling newspapers from his home on Ulysses Avenue. By 1898, Dow had four businesses located within walking distance of each other: his paper shop; his grocery store; his brewery; and his dairy products store (now known as Hood Hardware). In 1902–03, Dow built a six-story brick building at 5th Street and Olive Avenue which served as the town's first courthouse. Lemon Grove is a small town with a population density of only 100 people per square mile (39/km²). According to the 2000 census, the racial makeup of Lemon Grove was 98% White and 2%Black or African American. As of the 2010 census, there were 8,711 people living in Lemon Grove. Of these, 71% were Hispanic or Latino and 28% were non-Hispanic White alone. The majority of residents are self-employed or work as independent contractors. There are also several businesses that have been around for many years: The newspaper "TheBee" has been published here since 1884;[1] The hardware store "Hometown Hardware" has been open since 1922;[2] and the restaurant "Buca di Beppo" has been open since 1926. In recent years Lemon Grove has seen an increase in development activities due to its location within easy reach of both Bakersfield and Chico cities as well as its central location within Kern County for shopping and agricultural opportunities.[3][4] These developments have included a new hospital[5], an apartment complex,[6] a large manufacturing plant[7], several homes[8][9], and a mixed use development called Citrus Heights which will include retail space as well as housing units.[10][11]
