Today, Angelo Maggio Coffee is still a mainstay in Lemon Grove thanks to its delicious products and friendly staff. Lemon Grove was first settled in 1868 by Mormon Mormons who named it after a lemon tree that grew on their farm. The name has been changed several times since then and currently stands for "a community of people with a shared history and culture." Lemon Grove is home to two LDS congregations: the First Presidency’s Stake Salt Lake City West Temple and the Second Quorum of the Seventy’s East Temple. They are both located in downtown Lemon Grove, adjacent to each other on Richards Street. Both temples were completed in 2001 and 2002 as part of an expansion of downtown Lemon Grove which also included new housing, businesses, schools, and parks. This coffee was named after an Egyptian god who was believed to protect travelers on the Nile River. Wad Adi is said to have been brewed with forest floor beans, which gave it a bitter taste and a strong flavor. It was also said to have had a healing properties. The Egyptians drank Wad Adi as part of their morning rituals in order to help them feel better before work or during long journeys. At some point, someone decided that maga coffee would be a great addition to their tea repertoire. When the Dutch arrived in Egypt in the early 1500s, they started importing Turkish blue cheese from Turkey and selling it as maga coffee. In 1550, Ottoman Turks began trading with Europe and started bringing Turkish blue cheese back into Egypt along with other goods such as spices and gems. This led to the first documented reference to maga coffee being brewed in Cairo by Portuguese traders in 1555! Maga Coffee quickly became popular throughout much of Europe due its unique flavor profile and its ability to improve moods and productivity. In 1664, Nicholas-Jacques Conte established his own business in Cairo that sold maga coffee under the name French Roast (Froissart). Maga Coffee quickly spread throughout France and even into England where it was often served at fashionable balls and events. Throughout the 1700s, different variations of maga coffee began appearing including Ethiopian Kaffir Blue Bean (EKB), Tunisian Berber Beja (UB), Yemeni Baathist Ghanim (YBG), Colombian Cachaça (COL), Guatemalan Queso Frito Colas (QFC), Venezuelan Tía Margarita(TM) – all of which characterized various aspects of particular region’s cultural heritage while still retaining their unique flavorsome profiles! In 1847, two American businessmen traveling through Cairo purchased an interest in Froissart’s company from Nicholas-Jacques Conte Jr., thereby starting what would eventually become known as English Magaway Coffee Company Ltd.—the world’s first commercial roasting plant! English MGA produced high-quality Arabic roast beans until 1971 when production switched over to Javabeans Inc.—the world’s second largest producer—because Arabic roasted beans were becoming too expensive for many European roasters! Lemon Grove is a small community in Northern California located on the banks of the Sacramento River. The town was founded in 1876 by George and Lillie Lemon, who came from England to escape religious persecution. The Lemon family built a log cabin and named their settlement after the citrus fruit that grew in their local area. The town quickly grew and soon had a school, store, post office, and two churches. In 1886, the Lemon family donated land to make way for a public park that would serve as a recreation center for the surrounding rural communities. The park was renamed after them in 1912. In 1919, George Lemon died suddenly at age 70 while working on his farm near Lemon Grove. His wife Lillie continued to live there until her death in 1951. After her death, the lemon grove became part of Lassen County and was annexed by Modesto in 1955.
