Lemon Grove is a small town in the Central Valley of California, United States. The population was 1,597 at the 2000 census. It is part of Fresno County. The climate here is Mediterranean with significant influences from the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains. Lemon Grove has been inhabited by humans since prehistory and it began to be developed as a town in 1887. In 1902, Lemon Grove Post Office was founded and within 5 years had a population of over 100 residents. The first citrus fruit crops were grown in Lemon Grove in the late 1800s and early 1900s, but due to lack of irrigation systems and labor shortages, these crops only became successful for a few decades. However, by 1970 lemon production had resumed on an increased scale due to new irrigation infrastructure being built throughout the Central Valley region. The history of Lemon Grove can be traced back to two Spanish traders who landed there on horseback in 1769 during their journey from San Francisco down the coast of California. They named this place La Paloma because they saw a bright white light shining from a hilltop near where it stands today (the name has been changed several times). There are many stories about how this village came into existence; one story suggests that when Juan Bautista de Anza discovered gold near La Paz he decided to establish himself as an independent ruler over all of Alta California following his failed attempt to find gold upriver at Mission Dolores (#3 on our map). He sent some men out into what is now Lemon Grove area looking for clues about gold mines while he started building his fortified settlement at Mission Bay #2 about 12 miles away onshore along with Fort San Gabriel #1 which served as storage for supplies brought downriver by De Anza’s men.#4 After finding no evidence worth pursuing he abandoned his search for gold near La Paz completely#5 When Mexican independence was gained in 1821 Santa Fe Tell petitioned Mexico for permission to build posts along its border with Alta California claiming that many wagonloads of goods necessary for farming were being carried through Alta California each year by American traders without paying duty#6 On December 6, 1826 Mexico granted Santa Fe Tell’s request#7 Mexican land grants continued until 1850 when most became Divisional Lands subject to Rancho Bauerheit management#8 In 1860 US surveyor John Sutter located Poverty Rowan River just east of present day Lemon Grove and named it after him – after General James Buchanan’s home state Buchanan County Kansas)#9 In 1870 citrus grower Hurd Wagoner located lemon trees near present day Fruitland Avenue between Scenic Boulevard and Indian School Road north-west of town center) The first tree planted was called “Hudson” #10 By 1880 lemon groves extended northeastward past present day Enterprise Road towards Tulare Lake* A crop failure led Wagoner& Co partner Samuel Morse & Brother southward towards Visalia before turning back due lack of water) Present day route includes bushes & trees going east/west next door property line)evergreen orchard south side intersection off Enterprise Rd.) Outfitting settlers for their new community included paints , mirrors , potstery () soon followed (). With such an abundance available local farmers began growing crops such as apples , grapes , oranges , potatoes etc.; however much later horticultural experts would correct these errors!). Soil mixers arrived circa 1912-1914 ). Old timers recall that people would bring their own boxes fulla dirt )to build gardens .) Although there wasn't always enough space available inside or outside the store so people would share basketsfulof food () various activities like playing cards ()) sporting events ), picnics ())joined hands together while singing kumquat pie ())occasionally danced around fireplaces while women cooked()) What we know today as "Lemon Grove" originated from merely 4 houses which Charles Schulz lived across from where he started working at age 7.) As community grew larger three churches were established: Lutheran Church (1888), Methodist Episcopal Church (1892), First Baptist Church (1902). From 1893 until 1959 Foothill Presbyterian Church operated outfitted services (). Other businesses include hardware stores (.Socket cleaner pioneer Elisha Kinsman opened his business here in 1923)), restaurants (.Dairy queen Lucille Ball ate here her last meal before shetransported across countryto Hollywood)) Today's economy revolves largely around agriculture including citrus production; however many local businesses still remain active such as libraries:, schools:, hospitals:, banks

Lemon Grove, California was founded in 1859 by John Sutter and his wife Eliza. The town lies on the Western Slope of San Francisco Bay, about 30 miles east of San Francisco. It is named after the lemon tree that is found there. Lemon Grove became a small town with a population of around 100 people in 1860. In 1870, the town was renamed Stevens Point because John Stevens had donated land for the town. The population increased to 300 people by 1880, but then decreased to 100 people by 1890 due to World War I and other factors. However, the population has since grown again and currently stands at about 350 people. The first store in Lemon Grove was built on Main Street in 1860. There were three stores in Lemon Grove when it first became a small town: one operated by Mr. and Mrs. Halsey, another operated by Atherton & Co., and another operated by Hiram Powers & Bros.. In 1870, Mr asMr Halsey opened a general store which continued operation until 1914 while Mrs Halsey opened a dry goods store which continued operation until her death in 1951. The first post office was established at Lemon Grove on October 12th, 1861 (the date is still registered with the Geological Survey). In 1888, an oil well was drilled near Lemon Grove and although production ceased due to lack of water availability some wells did continue production for many years afterwards providing employment for many local residents including Melvin Morse who later served as Mayor of Los Angeles from 1923-1927 The growth of either tourism or industry caused dramatic changes within Lemon Grove over time as more businesses were opening up including restaurants, cafes/bars/nightclubs etcetera along with services such as plumbing supplies etcetera making life much easier for those living there including carpenters/hobbyists etcetera . One such major change that took place shortly after World War II was when Highway 101 bypassed the village completely leaving it isolated from what used to be its main economy . This also led to significant declines in both business activity and population during this time period . however , over recent years things have started to improve again with new development coming online such as an art gallery/.Walk Score report states that most citizens here enjoy moderate level access to public transportation so they are not too disadvantaged economically however certain areas do still experience higher levels of poverty especially given high levels of unemployment rates
