Lemon Grove, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. It is located about 30 miles east of Fresno and 20 miles west of Bakersfield. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. Lemon Grove was founded in 1887 by John C. Lemon and his wife Emma. The town was named for its lemon trees which were first grown hereabouts in 1883. The Lemon family ran a lemon works until it closed in 1912 and the town became a ghost town until it was reactivated as a village by then-Mayor Edwin Wuerth in 1978. The Village has since been renamed Lemon Grove after its founder's grandson, Jeffery Aiken Lemon, Jr.. There are several businesses within the village such as Hometown Clothing Outlet, JCPenney, Ford Credit Car dealership and several restaurants including Chili’s Pizza and Donuts on Main Street. Lemon Grove is also home to two high schools - Lemmon High School (grades 9-12) and Westside Christian High School (grades 11-12). There are also three elementary schools - Northview Elementary School, Southview Elementary School and Eastview Elementary School - within the boundaries of Lemon Grove Village: Elmira Middle school (Kindergarten through 6th grade), Orchard Park Middle school (7th through 12th grade), and Pinecrest Junior/ Senior Highschool (13th through 16th grades).

Lemon Grove is located on the San Joaquin River in central Kern County. It is northeast of Bakersfield and east of Visalia. The village has a ZIP code of 93723. The first place to be built in what is now Lemon Grove was called "New Town." In 1887, two brothers named George and John Lemon bought land near where they now live and began to build a house. They named their new community "Lemon Grove" after their lemon orchard which they farm east of town. Lemon Grove had its first post office in 1888 with Fenton as the mailer. By 1907, there were six Post Offices with Lemon Grove as the mailing location for all southeastern Kern County including parts of Tulare and Stockton Counties north of the riverbed including Porterville and Hanford City...In 1911 it changed hands four times before it finally reached its present site at 6th Street & I-5 neared by shopping centers today’s towns like Bakersfield (northwest), Merced (east), Mono (southwest) and Yuba City (northwest). A public school opened in 1916 which became known as "Penny Hill School". In 1925 it became known as "Monroe Elementary School". In 1957 it became an all-girls high school named "Hazel Dell High School" after Mrs Hazel Dell who donated money to make it possible
