The Army continued its presence in Lemoore through most of the 19th century; however, it officially left town in 1899 after construction of Fort Dowling ended up costing too much money. Today little remains of what was once an important military installation in town – only a few stone foundations remain scattered around downtown today reminder that there were once more active-duty soldiers living and working here than ever before.

Lemoore is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 2,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Madera area and is within the San Joaquin Valley. Lemoore was founded in 1887 by brothers George and John Lemoore. The town was originally named for General James H. Lemoore, who served as governor of California from 1865 to 1867 and as a U.S. senator from 1881 to 1889. When the brothers sold their holdings in Lemoore to Jepson Land Company in 1905, they changed its name to Lemoore after their old friend and benefactor, Captain John Jepson (1838-1902). The first store opened in 1888 on Main Street between Ninth and Tenth Streets, with four other stores opening between 1890 and 1902 including one called The Harvey Store on Twenty-Third Street that became a department store in 1922. A post office was established at LemoORE on October 25, 1889, and remained operational until it was discontinued on December 1, 1942 due to World War II shortages of stamps。 In 1924–25 an experimental program began which provided electric power for lighting streetslights throughout the community during evening hours; this program continues today under contract with Southern Pacific Railroad through local chapter #8012 In 1951 when LEMOORE Schools District No.—1 applied for state funding for a new high school (now known as Monterey High School), construction began but stopped when pupil enrollment exceeded desired level; students then transferred into nearby Pajaro Valley High School which opened September 26th 1952 . On July 15th 1960 residents voted 3‐0 not to annex either Price or Pleasanton using $4 million dollars raised by bake sales In 1984–85 citizens approved annexation of much needed Agricultural land east of town limits which forms present day communities of Union City (north), Citrus Heights (southwest) and Arroyito (east). In 2002 voters passed Measure B increasing property tax rates by 1/3 while still allowing some homeownership opportunities; following approval by Board Of Education measure went into effect June 5th 2002lifting moratorium on annexations now open for voter approval . On November 5th 2006 voters approvedAct 4—an amendment increasing contributions made toward education by individuals & businesses—by a wide margin unanimously overriding two earlier attempts . On January 17th 2009 Measure D—an election increase Dodging Proposition 8 Big Game hunting season repeal—was passed with over 60% support after more than three years of campaigning Bypassing “ yes” vote required pursuant to state Constitution Article XIII Section 7(b)—legislative process begins again Thanks also to efforts led by Friends Of LemoORE Committee member Lisa Newmark . The town was founded in 1868 by George Lemoore and his brother, Hiram. It became a post office in 1870 and then a city in 1898. Lemoore has two public schools, one high school and one middle school. The only grocery store in the town is Generoso's Gourmet Market which opened in 1998. Lemoore is also home to the Akeley Museum of Art, which opened in 2001.
Lemoore was founded by the Lemoore and Nevada Railroad in 1872. The railroad built a line from Lemoore to Reno, Nevada, and then to Carson City. In 1896, the company merged with the Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1907, the Lemoore and Nevada Railroad became part of the California Central Railway. The company abandoned its tracks in 1951.
