Lemoore is a small town in Butte County, California, United States. The population was 1,532 at the 2000 census. The name Lemoore is Spanish for "place of lime trees." The first documented mention of the place may be from 1824 when it was called "Empresario de la Mesa" (the latter being Spanish for "estate owner"). A post office called Lemoore was established in 1846. Lemoore became an incorporated town on April 26, 1907. It was named after Lorenzo de Lemoores y Valdivia who fought with General Santa Anna and later served as governor of Guerrero during the Mexican-American War. He is buried at Mission Dolores Cemetery in Lemoore. Lemoore's roots go back to 1824 when it was known as Empresario de la Mesa.
