Lemoore is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 7,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kern city limits. Lemoore's namesake comes from Spanish explorer Gaspar de Lemoore and his group who found it during their 1825-1826 exploration of the Gold Rush region of California. The name Lemoore means "little valley" in Spanish and since the early 20th century has been used as a term for alluvial fans that originate near here, such as the San Joaquin River. The town was founded in 1905 by citizens of Stockton who were looking for an agricultural center to replace their home of Stockton until then. After suffering through a drought in 1907-08, settlers began building up around Golden Gate Park before developing into what is now Loveland proper on Main Street just east of State Route 395. A post office was established at Loveland in 1906 and remained in operation until it closed shop on July 12, 1957 (the date local lore attributes to when prohibition ended). A new post office called Lemoore opened on December 1, 1912; it continued operations until it disbanded on January 15, 1959 due to changes in postal code laws which changed based on population growth rates across the state during those years. The first store built there was a hardware store and Rural Telephone Company served as its telephone company until 1974 when AT&T bought out Rural Telephone Company and discontinued service there also. In 1955 Mayor Clyde Waddell persuaded then-Governor Pat Brown to establish an Agricultural Research Station Land Grant program with $5 million available for research projects within three years no matter how many applications were received by lottery or other methods; this led to the founding of UC Davis's Broadwater Farm Research Center adjacent to Loveland High School circa 1960 under Director Leon E Lederman with support from Professor Harry Hooton (laterprofessor emeritus at UC Berkeley). farming became one of Loveland's mainstay industries after this stimulus grant money dried up and competition from other agencies soon ensued including development along US 290 northward into present day Bakersfield which began shortly thereafter soiltesting programs sponsored by UC Davis were conducted at both Blackhawk Ranch and White Sands Lake using equipment donated by General Electric Co.). infrastructure also developed including arterials like US 90/a former narrow dirt road leading east from downtownLoveland now terminate northeast near Menlo Park while expanding northwest past Tomales Bay onto Monterey Peninsula reaching inland past Sebastopol before terminating south at Livermore Valley) which continues today via I-680 about southeast of town center originally routed along old alignmentSR 99/SR 50 between Menlo Park & Livermore Valley) but bypassing much older parts of town). First and foremost, coffee was first brewed on small scale in India and Indonesia before it reached Europe. There were also rudimentary methods used to roast coffee back then, which often included using firewood or charcoal to cook beans. CoffeeShop International - a company founded by two American businessmen - first roasted coffee commercially in 1992. Eventually, advances in technology led to improved methods for roasting beans and brewing coffee. In 1969, David Lawrence opened his own roastery called Lawrence Coffee Company in Menlo Park, California - which became world-renowned for its innovative roasts and elegant packaging. The following year, Bob Peake established British Roasteries Ltd., which initially served only European espresso customers (though later expansions allowed for sales of tea and other drinks). By the late 1990s, technological advancements had made it possible for Starbucks Corporation (now known as Starbucks) to import nearly all of its produce from around the world - including specialty coffees from Africa, Asia Pacific Islands (including Australia), Latin America and South America. This helped make Starbucks one of the largest global consumer goods companies outside of North America. In 1881, Lemoore became a city and is now part of Riverside County. The Lemoore Manufacturing Company manufactured agricultural equipment until 1940. A number of businesses were located within the city limits including J.C.'s Jewelry Store, Hardware store, Lumberyard and Laundromat. The city experienced a large influx of people during World War II due to the efforts of the United States government to build airfields in California as part of Project Hula. Many individuals from Lemoore served in the war effort and many residents remain proud members of their community today. The post-war years saw a growth in housing which led to the incorporation of a zoning board in 1955 which helped guarantee that homes would be built near schools and other public services. Today, Lemoore has become an attractive place to live with its easy access to both freeways and shopping opportunities
