The early days were difficult for Lemoore; when it came under attack by Native Americans during the Gold Rush there was little food or water available so miners had to fight for every ounce they found while trying to bring back goods to their families back home in Vermont at great costome Moreover, disease also played havoc with these hard times; many people died from diseases such as measles and typhoid fever which could not be prevented by natural remedies alone however some brave men did try using modern medical equipment As far as transportation went things weren’t much better either; only wagons could bring goods upriver so drivers would have to make long trips down each day fetching water and other supplies needed along the way This trip took several days so passengers often felt frustrated jeering at drivers who usually paid them very well For many years no less than three different companies ran this same route hauled freight upriver daily finally taking over during World War II when an airfield was built just south of town making it easier for planes carrying troops and supplies into war zones In 1923 LEMOORE incorporation became a city within state boundaries but retained its own governing body known as City Council which consisted of twelve members including four councilpersons elected at-large . Lemoore was founded on December 7, 1862 by James W. Lyon and John H. Drake as the town of Lemoore, California. The name was changed to Lemoore in 1872 when it became a city under the jurisdiction of Melrose County. The population of Lemoore peaked at 25,000 in 1910 but decreased to 10,000 by 1920 due to strikes and World War I. The population dwindled further until it reached its present size of 3,500 in 1970. The first post office at Lemoore was established on April 15, 1866. In 1870, the Union Pacific Railroad built a line from Sacramento to Lompoc and renamed the station after then- Mayor John Hennessey (1848-1912). In 1876, J.P. Morgan purchased 5% of the city's stock for $1,500 and donated land for a new public square adjacent to what is now City Hall Square; he named this square "Morgan Park." Morgan also contributed $5 per capita to help build roads and other civic improvements in the city during his lifetime. Lemoore experienced its heyday between 1910 and 1920 when it had a population of 25,000 people; however this period also saw some significant controversies which have left an lasting impression on the community today: There were several strikes that took place during these years which caused many jobs lost across the area including police officers who were replaced with substitutes; furthermore there was also an increase in crime rates as well as social unrest affecting local businesses throughout these years leading to few if any profits for those involved cited municipal leaders as being responsible for much of these problems .
