Lemoore is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Palmdale district of Kern County. The name Lemoore comes from Spanish "Lemoarea" meaning 'little forest'. The first settlers in what is now Lemoore were Mexican farmers who named their land Rancho de las Molinas (Ranch of the Mines). In 1846, gold was found near Laughlin and so the mining industry began to grow in Lemoore. Mining operations continued until there was only a single mine operating in Lemoore by 1922. The post office at Lemoore was established on November 1, 1879. It served as an important center for trade and transportation during its early years. The townsite changed hands several times before it came into private ownership and control by the Baldwin family in 1907. After World War II, a large number of Americans moved to Southern California during the postwar boom period; many of these people founded new businesses here including A&P-Eagle Food Stores (later known as Walmart) and other retail stores. In 1959, local government reorganization caused Lemoore to become part of the newly created Kern County seat of Bakersfield; this change lasted until 1976 when it reverted back to its original status as a village within Kern County with self-government powers vested within Village Councils headed by Mayor/Councilors instead of City Council members. Today's economy largely depends upon agriculture due to lack of other significant economic activities outside ranching or manufacturing which are also dominant outside agricultural areas throughout much of Southern California

After the war ended, businesses picked up again and today Lemoore remains one of the most active communities within Inyo County and has seen growth in both its population and economy since its incorporation as a city in 1959
