Lindsay, California is a city in and the county seat of San Bernardino County, California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 65,231. The Lindsay metropolitan area has a population of 90,711. Lindsay is located about northwest of downtown Los Angeles and about east-southeast of Downtown San Bernardino. Lindsay was founded on July 29, 1879 by cattleman John Fetterman and his wife Emma Hutton Fetterman as Lone Pine Station on Rancho Palomino de las Pulgas (now part of Redlands). The name Lindsay came from an ad for land at Lone PineStation in the "Los Angeles Times" on November 17, 1879: "The Gordons invite you to come see this beautiful country which contains fillies worth $4000 each". In 1886 when Rancho Palomino de las Pulgas was divided into parcels for sale, one parcel became known as Lindsay Park while another parcel became known as City Park. In 1912 when Pasadena opened its new airport it needed a new townhall so Mayor Harry Wolkoff petitioned the County Board to build him one. The board granted him a request and construction began in 1913 with Wolkoff being sworn in as mayor that same day. On October 15th 1917 the first post office opened at Lindsay with mail sent from Pasadena via horseback to nearby Ontario along route 134 (later State Route 91). On December 5th 1909 issue of "The Signal" an English language newspaper published near what is now Cal Expo Center included an article headlined "New Town Plans Coming to Town Hall – Arrive Early if You want To Be Seen". It described plans by Mayor Harry Wolkoff to move the City Hall from where it had been since 1912 to his newly built Recreation Building across First Street from Town Hall Square which would have allowed better access for business leaders who would then be able to meetings without coming down Market Streetwhich at that time was considered too noisy for such important conversations. A petition drive led by future U.S Congressman Dolph Briscoe resulted in City Council approval on January 11th 1910 authorizing Mayor Wolkoff to start building the building which cost $4 million dollars including interest payments until 1923 . The first meeting held inMayor Wolkoff's new building took place on February 2nd 1910 with 30 council members present including himself and six co-authors of ordinance creating Lindsay
