By 1870, Livermore had a population of 10,000 people and was home to two churches: First Presbyterian Church and Baptist Episcopal Church (later Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church). In 1905, after years of planning by Mayor William Fenton with support from local farmers and businessmen, Livermore City Limits were created defining its boundaries today within neighborhoods on both sides of I-80 just north of Donner Pass Road/Highway Panamerica Boulevard east off Highway 101 near Millbrae Lake
